To a certain extent the government has a good reason to do that and retain aviators in flying status. It's called the CIVIL RESERVE AIR FLEET. Who's maintaining these aircraft while in bankruptcy proceedings, and why shouldn't the pilots consider alternate careers?

IIRC, licences cost money, and they are restricted to specific types of aircraft unless already qualified on that aircraft within requisite time periods.
I could be wrong. I'll take any corrections from aviators.
