Chinese facilities attacked with metal balls

Vandals fired metal balls through air guns into China-related friendship centers in and near Tokyo early Monday, possibly in reprisal for anti-Japanese demonstrations across China over the weekend, police said.

The makeshift bullets burst through a glass panel at the Nitchu Gakuin, a language center affiliated with the Japan-China Friendship Center in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo.

The balls resemble ball bearings and are similar to those that were fired into a Bank of China branch in Yokohama on April 10. The Bank of China is a state-owned bank in China.

Police said a cleaner arrived at the Nitchu Gakuin just before 7 a.m. on Monday to find a panel of glass near the entrance had been shot. Police arrived on the scene and discovered four shots had also been fired into an area near the entrance. Two steel balls of about 5 millimeters circumference were found nearby.

A guard patrolling the site at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday had not noticed anything untoward at that time.

About one hour later, the head of the Japan China Society's training division in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, notified the police that a window at the facility had been cracked.

A police inspection of the building found shots had opened holes in two windows. Two metal objects as large as pachinko balls were found in the area.

Ball bearings of about the same size can be used in air guns modified to fire them instead of plastic BB slugs. They were used in the attack on the Bank of China branch in Yokohama on April 10. At least 12 shots had been fired at the bank, causing damage in nine areas. (Mainichi Shimbun, April 18, 2005)

hahaha...

You know, in America we just call those BB guns, but they tend to be so literal about the language here in Asia.

All you need is some surgical tubing, ball bearings and you have a low power .22.

Every good Japanese knows Chinese got no balls and we got plenty -- so we kindly offer some of our spare ones.

Japanese attacks are usually along the lines of "the robot fires explosive rocket fists at its opponent". This must be a new approach. I suspect robot ninjas.

If the protestors start jumping in slow motion and yelling the name of an attack, however, watch out.
