Rep. Tancredo Suggests DeLay Resign (playing to both sides, revising comment)
WP ^ | April 16, 2005 | Mike Allen

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) said yesterday that it "may be a productive move" for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) to step aside while charges against him are investigated, but added that he believes the accusations are "trumped-up charges" by Democrats.

Tancredo issued the statement after the Denver Post quoted him as saying that although he does not favor ousting DeLay, "If he chose to resign as majority leader until these matters are resolved, that's probably not the worst idea."

Tancredo said in the statement that he believes "that all of the charges against Tom DeLay I have seen to date lack merit."

"I believe they are being leveled in the hopes of bringing him down, and with him, the Republican majority," Tancredo said. "However, if the majority leader were to temporarily step aside so that these trumped-up charges can be dealt with in a less hostile environment, as they have proven to be an unnecessary distraction, it may be a productive move."

The Dems and MSM is playing this for everything it's worth.

Tancredo should have kept his mouth shot in the first place, his "clarification" of his stand is NOT helping and I am sure he knows that.

I highly recommend reading this excellent analysis:

Assault on DeLay is All About Politics

http://www.conservative.org/columnists/lessner/04132005rl.asp

"Democrats despise DeLay because he is a tough, principled conservative and an effective majority leader who is successful in driving the Republican agenda though the House. Unable to win elections, and bereft of anything positive to offer the country, the Democrats and their Soros-funded allies have become little more than a pack of seething scandalmongers."

Tancredo said in the statement that he believes "that all of the charges against Tom DeLay I have seen to date lack merit."

But yet wants him to step down?

Tancredo is an idiot

The only thing underhanded about Pubbies is their pitching. Pubbies won't play hardball even when the Rats are playing slimeball.

"Tancredo is an idiot"

I agree. He is using the illegal immigration issue merely to get his 15 minutes of fame.

And some are following him, and idolize him.

I don't know -- I thought he supported it.

I saw Tancredo interviewed on FoxNews, and he said something that sounded like support, but I wasn't paying that much attention -- I don't like the guy.

Yes, I've seen him on TV lately supporting it

But in the beginning when there was a lot of controversy about the project .. I don't remember hearing a peep from him on the topic

Tancredo is an idiot. What does he figure to gain by joining the Democrats in their smear campaign against DeLay? Maybe he's competing with Shays for McCain's job as Republican traitor.

What is with this guy, one little bit of junk from the dems and they flock up to the mike saying it is time for the accused to go. My stock in Mr. T has been greatly reduced.

With useful idiots like Tancredo, who needs enemies? How on earth can this guy hand up on a silver platter, more ammo for the dems and MSM?!!!!! Not a team player.

Calling Tancredo an idiot isn't helping, and most know the Washington Post will slant coverage to suit their political agenda. I suggest holding your fire until these comments are understood better. Tancredo was alone in the House on the seriousness of immigration issues when everyone else sat on the sidelines. Eating our own is just what the Democrats want us to do.

"If he chose to resign as majority leader until these matters are resolved, that's probably not the worst idea."

Tancredo will now officially "Do Anything" to grab Natl. spotlight. All that Tancredo for Prez talk has gone straight to his head. No thanks.

Oh, Jeez! Where are all the Tancredo lovers now? Right smack dab in the middle of a Democratic Party agitprop campaign, and Tom has to play right into their hands, just like that pantywaist Chris Shays.

Tom needs to get back to the border and spend more time looking for black Mexican helikopterz. Idiot.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Tancredo was the only US Congressman to appear at the Minuteman Project kickoff. He has shown strong support for this any many other initiatives to defend the US against illegal aliens. I just wish he would shut up on Delay. It is harmful and divides conservatives to the delight of the democrat socialists.

Tancredo is an idiot

Delay made the mistake of wearing a sombrero at a House Cinco de Mayo party and Tancredo has been gunning for him ever since.

Tancredo saw what the media did with Shays' comments. He can't claim ignorance. This is a major blow to his "conservative" credentials.
