"While that would be nice, I think we all benefit from gov't programs in one form or another."
Oh, I understand that. I'm not an anarchist or libertarian. I would even pay higher taxes if I thought I could have more control over where it went. But, I'm also aware that this probably isn't too practicle. I'm just daydreaming out loud.
I'd like to see a "trickle up" program.
We pay county taxes anyway. Sooo...all of our tax money goes to the county.
The State puts in a request for some of our county money. If we approve it, the county sends a portion to the State.
Then, the Feds put in a request to the State. If we approve the Feds budget. They get some of "our" funding.
With the trickle up program:
First, we get decent roads, firefighters, police and emergency medics.
Second, WE control the outflow of tax money.
We should also secure offsetting income from local city and county investment programs. If we (the county) invest in a stadium, zoo, etc. , then we should receive an income from the investment. Not just float a bond to build something and then get nothing in return.
Oh yeah. No bonds. If we can't pay cash, it ain't gonna fly.
That's MY dream.
