That is one of W's strong points, he picks good people, then trusts them with the authority to do their jobs at the highest level. I think that is why he gets such tremendous loyalty from people like Rumsfeld, Cheney, Rice, et.al, people who are in certain ways his seniors or superiors, age-wise, politically, experience-wise, education-wise, etc. Yet they all happily defer to him. I always get the feeling that the last thing any of his closest staff want to do is upstage or backstab him.

Indeed this is Bush's strong point and Tony Blair's weak point. We had the spectacle today at a press conference where Blair had the whole of his cabinet on stage when he announced his manifesto and he had certain members in the front row adding their comments at the appropriate time. He had his foreign secretary Jack Straw in the back row what a statement that gave the country and the world that Tony Blair controls and directs all foreign policy and Jacks Straw just does his bidding, can you imagine Condi standing for that or for that matter GWB dishonoring her like that.

Could you imagine either Straw or Brown meeting Sharon without Blair present I can't unless like you say it was a purely hand shaking event not a 90 minute meeting such as Cheney's was yesterday.

Just seen on Yahoo that Cheney is doing a town hall type meeting on Friday re social security.

Yep you're right there as the President (then Governor Bush) said that Wake Up Little Susie was his favourite song during a quiz on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2000. He corrected himself as he originally said that Buddy Holly sung it; of course it is the Everly Brothers.

Truth, I appreciate it, thank you for sharing. I am happy to know that your brother and company all returned safely. I have such an admiration, now, for all of the many families of military personnel now that I know what it feels like. Yes, Kayak has added Philip to the list and I am grateful to you, her and everyone for including him in their prayers. Thanks so much.
