Personally, I have no freakin' problem with this old closeted gay man having a civil union with his "partner". That's his business. What I do object to is the ritualistic bashing of the "Christians" when doing an interview with the Times to establish his bona fides with the MSM and the Chattering Class. It's like having to go to Pamplona to run with the bulls so you can say that you too can write Muscular Prose just like Hemingway did. What crap.
