At this point of time,it does pay to remember that China operates around 2 warships which use the LM-2500 gas turbines, purchased in the 1980s & their main ASW torpedo is a variant of the baseline MK-46.They would possibly have got Phalanx systems if it weren't for Tianammen.Hence, putting all the blame on Clinton is akin to being blind to the whole issue.Well clinton was one of the worst, but Carter, Nixon for handing their own things to China (Panama Canal) and GW the 1st for giving China "most favored status." We would not have the "one China" policy if not for the fact that the democratic party and even some republicans are fully subsidized by China.

" but Carter, Nixon for handing their own things to China (Panama Canal)"
I keep hearing this but it is in fact inaccurate. Can you point out how china owns the panama canal, controls it, etc.? Controlling balboa and cristobal ports in no way means china 'controls' the canal.

in japanese..."mitsubishi" means "three diamonds"
To: rlmorel
How about letting them in on the W7x series of nuclear warheads and ballistic missile guidance systems.
To: kingattax
Yeah, but the three diamonds have been arranged like a propeller.

The last conntection between Russ/Chinese frigate designs was the Riga class of 50 years ago
to
Chinese Jiangwei II-Modified. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Russian Krivak III-Modified/Talwar
They may look similar, but it's convergent evolution; The paths were different

Need to double-check but I seem to have read somewhere that EVEN the Russians does NOT possess the "AEIGIS" system yet
If so, how do the RUssians give something to China that they don't have
Having said that, this means that the US would have to gusrd its secrets more carefully

Aren't the Talwar class vessels classified as Krivak-4(Project 1135.6)????

And then we have the bozo Sandy Berger gets off with NOTHING!
Gary Aldrich's book "Unlimited Access" is a horrifying indictment of security in the White House during the Clinton years.
It reeks of the truth....sadly.

"The statement did not say how much Pakistan would pay China or how long it would take to build the four warships."
http://www.strategycenter.net/research/pubID.48/pub_detail.asp
"Chinese Frigates Admiral Shahid also stated that Pakistan was committed to co-producing four new frigates of a Chinese design. They will be built in Pakistan. However, this deal was also dependent on Pakistan securing a $750 million loan from China, which at the time had not been settled. This program is expected to last 13 years. The frigates, designated the F 22P, are based on the Chinese Jiangwei-II design, but feature a far cleaner superstructure. These ships displace 2,500 tons and will have a top speed of 29 knots. Models of the ship indicate thus far, it will be armed with up to 8x C-802 size anti-ship missiles, the HHQ-7 short-range anti-aircraft missile, twin 100mm main guns, 2x 30mm Russian-designed gattling guns for anti-missile protection, and one Z-9 anti-submarine helicopter."

I read the specs and it doesn't look very impressive. But I guess it's one step up for the Pakistani navy. $750 mil for 4 ships is pretty cheap too.
