The dehumanization worked

As Terri Schiavo lay dying, her organs slowly mummifying from the effects of prolonged, court-ordered dehydration and starvation, the Supreme Court of the United States refused to hear an appeal from her parents that might have saved her life. Her parents argued that Schiavo's right to due process under the law had been denied, a claim summarily rejected — without even the pretense of a full hearing — by a District Court and upheld by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Less than one week later, however, the Supreme Court sat in rapt attention as attorneys argued a very different life and death case, this one involving a convicted rapist and murderer whose case found its way to the high court because he is a non-citizen, and who, it is alleged, had been denied full and adequate access to diplomats from his home country when he was criminally charged.

In both cases, lower courts had already ordered the termination of life — in the case of Terri Schiavo, by refusing her food and water on the basis of a Florida state court ruling; and in the case of Jose Ernesto Medellin, by the judgment of a Texas jury that he was guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt" of the rape and murder of two teenage girls in 1992. .

Rev. Jesse Jackson joined protesters outside Schiavo's hospice on Tuesday, declaring, "This is one of the profound moral and ethical breaches of our time. . . we pray for a miracle." It should not take a miracle to convince the U.S. Supreme Court that an innocent, brain-damaged woman deserved as much consideration as a convicted rapist and murderer. But then we live in dark times.

Isn't this the truth? We really do live in dark times. God help Terri, God help us all to see what they have done to her.

I'm surprised that Mikey hasn't ordered her organs to be donated.

When Terry Schiavo dies, the Democrat party will have a orgasm.

I don't know about the entire party, but I'm pretty sure about George Felos. Disgusting.

It isn't difficult to despise the legal profession for the cowardice, ineptness, and self serving orientation exemplified in this case and many others like it.

Is it coincience that the forces of darkness, the deatheaters, have chosen a blind judge? The judge may be blind, but he knows precisely what he is doing.

Judge Greer and his fellow travelers Schiavo and Felos have much to fear of a Federal investigation into the Terri Schiavo matter. There is much more than simple ignorance. There gives the appearance of a conspiracy to deprive a citizen of her civil rights, to deprive her of her life and to defraud the government of considerable funds.

Terri Schiavo sustained severe injury and brain damage, that is clear. The failure treat her seems to be more than a mere coincidence. She has reportedly been denied treatment mandated under federal and state laws. The denial seems to be as the result of a conspiracy between her “husband” and this fellow Felos, watched over by a blind judge, Greer.

She is not “brain dead”, that is clear. What she would have wanted done in this situation is not known, except by the very contradictory words of a person claiming to be Terri’s husband who is living with another woman while fathering two of her bastards. Words only remembered after he got paid for her misery.

A final thought, if dying of starvation and dehydration is such a fine way to go, why don’t we use it on criminals and pound dogs?

This is how an AP story dehumanized Terri on Sunday:

"To understand the emotional reaction to the tapes of Terri Schiavo, one need only spend a few minutes with Kismet.

People who spend time with the robot at a Massachusetts Institute of Technology lab walk away feeling like they've made a new friend. Kismet is nothing but a mechanical head made out of metal and plastic, but it has been cleverly programmed by scientists to mimic human social interactions.

Sit down across from Kismet and it gives you a pleasant smile. Step too close and it jumps back with a startled expression on its face. Introduce yourself and it waits patiently for you to finish talking, then replies with a few syllables of speech that sounds like a higher-pitched version of the language spoken by the teachers in 'Charlie Brown' cartoons.

Kismet is no more conscious than a dishwasher or a microwave oven. But its vaguely human behavior has a powerful effect on brains that are predisposed to attach meaning to gesture, facial expression and vocal tone.

"This ... system that we have is so automatic and so powerful, sometimes it ends up being triggered by things that aren't people and don't have minds at all," said Martha J. Farah, a psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania. "It's very hard to suppress the impression that there's somebody there."

People in persistent vegetative states are no more aware than Kismet, but they retain a handful of primitive reflexes that are naturally misinterpreted as conscious behavior."

I just heard that he spent hours at the hospice today ,the ghoul. Why isn't he in Atlanta preparing for the 11thD. court hearing or does he get advance notice of the decision.

I suppose he wants to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He'll want to write about his spiritual experiences when life passes from the "body" as he has done in the past. This really is beyond horrible. This guy is sick, evil, insane, all of the above.

Maybe he's making commercials, or, exhorting her to die, telling her she has no hope, that it's ok to come into the light or some such nonsense. Maybe he's reading her his book, or writing her last words so he can ???.

And demons shall walk the earth.

For that, a signed card is required.

Florida hasn't gotten around to making that a 'hearsay,' right...yet.

Give them time.

Nothing will change. Dems/Repubs..all the same under their garments...
