Microsoft will build software for managing identities into Windows in order to beef up security by giving users more control over their personal information, the world's largest software maker said on Tuesday.
The ID technology, called "info-cards," will give users more control over their own personal information in order to shop and access services online, said Michael Stephenson, a director in Microsoft's Windows Server division.
Microsoft is currently working on a new Internet Explorer Web browser and version of Windows, code-named Longhorn, but Stephenson declined to say whether info-cards would be built into the current Windows XP version or into Longhorn.

What happened, Passport not secure either?
Given Microsoft's record, I suspect that they will consolidate all the users personal info to make it easier to find WHEN the latest exploit is found. And suckers, err... I mean customers, will just eat this crap up with a spoon.
The article says no one used passport.
We'll see how this new and improved idea goes.
Microsoft PASSPORT account was a joke too.
I needed to sign up for that travesty (and security riddled joke) just to do a ACTIVESYNC with my MICROSOFT POCKET PC. I no longer use my POCKET PC for anything, or any other Microsoft services (hotmail, msn, etc)...(PALM rules anyways in the PDA arena, imho..I also mostly use Linux at this point).
Microsoft and Security are not exactly synonimous words.
regards.
Yes, it is the typical blog spam - take your antiwar garbage elsewhere.
Even is it's your atypical blog spam that still makes it spam.
Begone spammer scum.
This is for a non-profit, not seeking donations website that is attempting to do in-depth, literary journalism with a focus on the anti-war movement. It features news stories as well as satire, poetry, and a hilarious daily blog that you can Talk back to without registering for anything. Our focus is the anti-war movement, our mission: Regime Change. On-line now it features an exclusive interview with Michael Berg, the father of Nick Berg who was, sadly, beheaded by someone in Iraq.

LOL........yeah, sure farm boy. Tell me, before you are zotted, what WOULD you consider "typical blogger spam" if NOT that?
LOL.....what a maroon.
The article is just too vague to make any comment on. Let's see an RFC (IETF standard) on it. Without a standard I doubt it will gain much widespread support.
Oh goody!
Microshaft is finally going to get their operating system right!
no kidding...
Sadly I dont think MS will need to publish a standard, theyll tie it into IE and it will become the 'defact' standard...
No, they never released a federated Passport that companies could use internally.
