I would really like to answer this question.

" What do these people hope to accomplish by rushing the hospice? They can't seriously believe they'll get to Terri's bedside.
Is it that much fun to get arrested and pay a fine? It certainly isn't helping Terri."

Those people gathering at the hospice, go there to show the rest of us that they really care. I need that, maybe you do not, but I can not be there, and I really need to know that someone cares, and that all people do not support murder.
Without these caring people, I would feel alone. No, these people do not expect to get to Terri's bedside, and the water is symbolic of what Terri needs. Some nourishment with it would be good too.

Symbols matter. Water has a particular religious resonance. They may deny her humane compassion but they cannot deny that she is not alone. And that is what angers them most of all.

This guy wasn't using water as a symbol...In my opinion, he expected to gain entry to the hospital. From what I heard, he went over a fence and almost made it to the doors! That's why he is facing more serious charges and was actually tasered!
