Once Kerik accepted, Bush took a few minutes to explain why he’d chosen him. He told Kerik he believed that few people had a better understanding of terrorist threats to America, based on his ground-level, front-line experience with the NYPD on September 11, and in Iraq. He also said he believed Kerik could effectively communicate the seriousness of those threats to the American people. But then he got to the heart of the matter. “He used an expression I’d never heard before,” Kerik says. “He told me he wanted someone to go in there and ‘break some china.’”

WTF is this supposed to mean???

Bush wants someone to be Director of Homeland Security and 'break some china'????

Sounds very ominous. Almost like Bush wants DHS to *create* problems that they can solve.

please people don't you know what Bush meant, he means the same thing like Bolton being appointed to the UN, like Wolfowitz being appointed to the World Bank and Porter Goss being appointed to the CIA

Bush wants people who are not afraid to shake up the status quo and that is surely what Homeland security needs although then I wonder why Norm Mineta isn't gone by now

frankly I think Kerik was a great pick and the sad reality is that between the press and the nomination process it is a miracle any qualifed people ever get appointed to any key post unless you are a Condi Rice who's already been through it and has already developed a thick skin, who would want to go through that kind of bullshit because remember gang, let he who is without sin cast the first stone

very few of us have lead such pristine and mistake free lives that the press and Washington cannot find someway to make you look bad......

I certainly hope that is a just a rumour that Rove set up Kerik for the fall, to hurt Rudy
