No compelling reason to kill Terri Schiavo

A couple of decades back, north of the border, it was discovered that some overzealous types in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police had been surreptitiously burning down the barns of Quebec separatists. The prime minister, Pierre Trudeau, shrugged off the controversy and blithely remarked that, if people were so upset by the Mounties illegally burning down barns, perhaps he'd make the burning of barns by Mounties legal. Mark Steyn always make his points very well.

"There seems to be a genuine dispute about her condition -- between those on her husband's side, who say she has ''no consciousness,'' and those on her parents' side, who say she is capable of basic, childlike reactions. If the latter are correct, ending her life is an act of murder. If the former are correct, what difference does it make? If she feels nothing -- if there's no there there -- she has no misery to be put out of. That being so, why not err in favor of the non-irreversible option?"

There is one at least one major compelling reason for Terri to die from the Michael Schiavo/George Felos point of view...

If Terri were to continue living and if Terri was to receive and respond to therapy that might only yield a better ability to communicate, just think of the possibilities. If Terri was truly cognizant of things around her during the past few years and if the allegations of the nurses were indeed true, just think of the lawsuits that could follow.

I had a neighbor across the street, dying of cancer, and in his last days his wife would take him for little walks to see the sun and look at the trees. Pointless? Empty? I don't think so.

Schiavo's father, Robert Schindler, whose family has compared her complexion to that of a concentration camp victim, said "she is fighting like hell to stay alive."

I am hopeing beyond hope that Terri's parents file lawsuit after lawsuit against her pathetic husband and keep him tied up in litigation forever. Lets start an email campaign calling for lawsuits for wrongful death!

I think the "living wills" thing is ridiculous. Who's to say that some right-to-die lawyer gets a right-to-die judge to determine that you really didn't mean it, your spouse says you weren't in your right mind or some such, and the court orders what they will.

Who's to say that you'll feel the same way after an injury as before one? What a nightmare that must be, to realize after the fact that you do want to live after all, then be euthanized for your previous error!

I have one question on legality. Is it truly legal for a judge to order that Terri can't be fed by means other than the tube? Is that really a part of the law the Fla. legislature enacted? Seems to me that was the route to attack.Theres nobody in the world could stop me from putting a spoon to my childs mouth.

For leftists, economics is their "moral code," which happens to be the same code in effect when one animal brings down its prey. Immediately, that animal is envied and the other animals circle and worry their cases for their "fair share." It is the economics of animalism.
