Twenty-one immigrants convicted of a range of sex crimes, many against children, were arrested by federal agents in a roundup throughout Westchester yesterday in the first step toward deporting them.
A team of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE)agents swept through Yonkers, White Plains, New Rochelle, Mount Kisco and Peekskill arresting the sex fiends, including 19 as they reported to probation officers for offenses including rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and assault.
"We are putting every sex offender and child predator on notice," Deputy Special Agent in Charge Salvatore Dalessandro told a news conference. "This behavior will not be tolerated. We will find you, and we will arrest you."
With convictions for felonies such as rape and attempted rape against children as young as 7, the offenders, seven of whom were here legally, could all be deported.
Among those arrested as part of the nationwide Operation Predator, which has resulted in some 300 local arrests alone, was Jorge Luis Giron, a Guatemalan in the country illegally who was convicted of the attempted rape of a 7-year-old girl.
ICE agents delivered the cons to a detention facility in Passaic County, N.J., pending either imminent deportation or hearings before an immigration judge, officials said.
