London: Women find it more difficult to switch off than men after a hard day's work or a family rift. They lie awake sulking about work or family problems and are reported to lose an average of 90 minutes of sleep a night. According to a study by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, women are significantly worse sleepers than men. Eighteen per cent of women reported a minimum of five bad nights' sleep in a week compared to only eight per cent of men.

Seventeen per cent women were disturbed by the presence of their partners in bed as compared to nine per cent men. Further, fidgety partners and restless children disturb women's sleep.

According to Dr Jenny Hislop, co-author of the report, women effectively work a 'third shift' because they psychologically carry their daily worries and duties to their bedrooms.

They need to get laid more at bed time. Any guy can tell you that helps you fall asleep right away.

I believe it...My wife is always awake longer than I am. We could get into an argument and I could sleep like a baby...she would be up all night contemplating it...

They just need to discover the joys of sex. It puts me right to sleep afterward...

It's true! My husband can fall asleep within five minutes. Also, I am the one who gets up whenever there is a sound in the house (always the kids trying to sneak into bed). I also keep getting up between 3 am and 3:15 almost every night for some reason.

Hmmmmm, this must pertain to limey ladies. My American version sounds like a piledriver/learjet 10 minutes after assuming the prone position.

OTOH, I take longer to get to sleep than my wife, does, so there goes your data-point. ;-)

This study seems to be based on very shakey evidence, if any evidence at all....

lol... my wife pretends she's sleeping... you'd think 3 minutes of pleasure would tire her out.

Not my wife. She starts snoring (a cute girlish snore) the minute her head hits the pillow. I tend to be awake for about an hour after turning in. It's thinking time for me, and planning time for the next day.

I don't know about women, but I am usually asleep within 3 minutes of lying down.

She further added that men most often act as 'gatekeepers' to women's sleep by making unnecessary demands or even disrupting their rest for example, by turning on the light to read or waking their partner to talk.

So that's how British men disrupt their wives . . . no wonder they don't have many kids!

That's because they know that somewhere there is a man staying up late by himself watching The Three Stooges.
