SEOUL (AFP) - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said European weapons technology should not be used by China to expand its military as she again warned against the lifting of an EU arms embargo to the communist country.

At a joint news conference with South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon, Rice said the European Union "should do nothing to contribute to a circumstance in which Chinese military modernization draws on European technology..."

Rice also said the United States would maintain its armed forces in the Asia-Pacific region to safeguard the current balance of military power.

"The United States will of course maintain and modernize its forces to make certain that the military balance can be maintained in the Asia-Pacific so that the region can continue along a peaceful path and that it can continue along the democratic path and that it can continue along the economic prosperity," she said.

Well C. Rice, what did you expect our enemy, the Red Communist Chinese to spend their hundreds of billions of U.S. dollars on, amusement parks and super malls???

Don't worry Condi, they are teaming with Russia, Iran, N. Korea and in case you haven't figured it out yet, Europe...And when they hit Taiwan, they will go after Israel also...

I remeber reading a few months ago that there was tension between the US and Israel because Israel was selling arms and spare parts to China. i don't know if those reports were true or not. I will look for some links.

The Japanese are rearming. However, they, the right wing types, also want to rewrite their Constitution. They don't like the one written for them by MacCarthy. This is the scary part.

Why is that scary? My impression is that Japan is one of our closest allies. I think it is the U.S. that has been proding Japan to modify their pacifist constitution and this has been going on since the 90's I believe.
