PARIS, March 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said here Friday that China has the right to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity and to realize national reunification.

"Both the former Soviet Union and Russia have all along supported China's efforts to maintain territorial integrity," Putin told reporters after his summit meeting with the leaders of France, Germany and Spain.

"We understand the endeavor of the Chinese leadership in this regard. Our position remains unchanged," Putin said, commenting the Taiwan question and an anti-secession law adopted recently by China's parliament, the National People's Congress.

As for the arms embargo of the European Union on China, Putin said Russia and the European countries should work together on exchanges with China on arms and other areas as it will facilitate high-tech cooperation among the countries. Enditem

This is why we should be developing and producing more ultra high tech weapon systems like the F-22 and JSF and NOT SHARING THEM WITH OUR EUROPEAN "ALLIES".
On a side note, how much and how protected is China's infrastructure?

I don't get his game. The Russians do not sell their highest quality items to the Chinese (they save those for India). They do sell A LOT of arms to China but they're tuned down versions. Why would he want to share the Chinese market with Europe?

I don't think the F-22 will be shared with anyone. Well, we might "sell" some to Israel.

Putin has been wearing "knee-pads" since 7-16-2001. The problem is that most didn't notice till he flaps his lips. This is a man who wants to see the good old days return.

You're right about the F-22. Isn't the Joint Strike Fighter going to be widely marketed to europe?

Yes, most of countries, which have now F-16's will probably buy in the future JSF.

Thank you for the great graphics, Grzegorz 246.

Here's another post that you all might be interested in. It shows that our leadership will reveal (even through State Dept. Ambassador, sometimes) more real concerns when we are attentive and understanding.

Russia is going to rent out Akula nuclear subs to India, and China only gets the diesel subs. Plus all the planes Russia sells to India has components from Europe/Israel. Although now that the ban is going away I guess China will buy European components (until they copy the designs) for their Russian planes. I'm not trying to argue that Russia doesn't sell a massive amount of arms to China, just that India gets higher quality stuff.

India buy higher quality stuff, because they are allowed to do it (no embargo), because they have relatively small army and that's why they need better equipment and because they pay more, not because Russians like them more than China.

I don't think Chinese infrastructure is protected from a military attack by the US, if that is what you are asking. China realizes it cannot win a full scale war with the US at this time, and plans a quick action on Taiwan (if they do act) to present the US with a fait accompli. Whether this would work is problematical.

I agree with your stand on creating a "military technology firewall" with Europe vis a vis the Chinese situation.
