Ithaca Peace Vigil (City of Evil at it again)

ITHACA -- Two events on Saturday, March 19, will mark two years of U.S. involvement in Iraq.

An all-day peace vigil -- the Vigil-a-thon -- is planned with the theme "Another world is possible." Members of the group Ithaca Peace Vigil, which has a regular vigil every Wednesday morning, hope the Vigil-a-thon will be an easy way for people to show their concern and remembrance. The event is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the intersection of Clinton Street and Route 13.

The second event is a peace march to begin in Washington Park at noon. It will travel west to Route 13 and then turn back up toward The Ithaca Commons. The coalition of faith-based, and secular groups sponsoring the march are assembling banners and costumes.

"Another world is possible."

That's exactly the danger. Without the judicious use of American force, another world would surely exist in which the Taliban, Saddam and Al-Qaida ran around with impunity. Thank God for George Bush and the USA.

Yes. Another world IS possible. Do not give up hope, I am ready to forgive the traitors in the interim government and reassume my position as president of Iraq. Then things will be different.

Just like before.

A few reasons why "Ithaca is the City of Evil":

Originally called "Sodom" in frontier days, and home to Lucifer Falls, Ithaca is host to two colleges, Cornell U (aptly nick-named "the Big Red") and Ithaca College (which flies the gay flag over its campus), the two major employers in the area. They ensure that a disproportionate amount of "ivory tower liberals" dominate the city.

Click here to see some "typical" Ithacans. Scary, huh?

With a crew like this in charge, locating copies of National Review or the American Spectator requires a trip out of the City, while Ithaca magazine racks remain well-stocked with copies of The Progressive, and The Nation. Readers interested in exposing themselves to a full range of national opinion are simply out of luck.

As a result of this dominiance, politics in Ithaca runs the gamet from "liberal" to "communist."

For years, the town had an openly socialist mayor. They later elected him to the school board.

Even today, the City and County governments are dominated by democrats and Green party members. Ithaca is so "Green" that Ralph Nader got more votes in Ithaca than George W. Bush, and the NYS Green Party held its 2002 nominating convention there. The current Chair of the County Legislature is a radical former anti-war protester, self-described hippie, who says "My values haven't changed, just my tactics."

Another local political figure, commenting on September 11, said >"I think the U.S. is starting to pay for the fact that it's been a rogue state for years."

As a result, we get lunacy like spending $500,000 to install solar panels on the new library (in cold, dark, upstate NY).

Even law enforcement is subject to political correctness. One former police chief's major concern was "pushing for departmental diversity.". His replacement was picked because they wanted a minority, but he failed the civil service exam twice. The latest chief was chosen simply because they wanted a woman. Her most notable accomplisments are attending topless protests and and banning the U.S. flag from police uniforms.

To make matters worse, the liberals who dominate Ithaca work overtime to impose their ultra liberal agenda on the area children. As the local newspaper recently put it, “In most places, youngsters spend their summers camping, or at the mountains or the beach. In Ithaca, they learn how to become social activists.”

The School District has mandated that elementary school students in the first and second grades be graded on how well they "respect others of varying cultures, genders, experiences, and abilities." It's even listed on the schools' report card. Despite this alleged tolerance, a student who was found reading the bible on her lunch hour was chatised for doing so. Another was directed not to bring a book about Christmas to school.

There's even a taxpayer funded "alternative" (ie, hippie) school that let's students graduate in majors like basket weaving and political activism, and invited convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal to be its graduation speaker .

These schools churn out "educated idiots," who are so liberal, they write editorials that argue "Bin Laden is Human too."

Need more proof? Do a search for "Ithaca" here at FR. You'll see a near daily dose of institutionalized, unfettered, liberal idiocy.

As a result of its unfettered liberalism, Ithaca was voted most enlightened (ie, liberal) city in America by the ultra left Utne Reader. As a good, conservative Freeper, I'm sure you'll agree that, contrary to what Utne says, "liberal" is not "enlightened." Unfettered liberalism is, well, evil.

As the most liberal city in America,"Ithaca is the City of Evil."

Some of the invaders are so anxious to get a prime parking space, i.e. as close to Green Street as possible, that they will actually go around a stopped school bus with its red flashing lights on to get to a parking space. Some block driveways or park in such a way that denies other people a place to park. Others even leave garbage.

How do they find the time to worry about Osama with all of the anxious invaders infiltrating Green Street? They could have actually parked 2 Hybrid's in the same spot that the jerk from around the corner parked his SUV. The nerve.

My son Jeremy Shannon died two years ago today, hiking one of the trails outside Ithaca on the first fine spring day. Although an expert hiker, he hit a patch of black glass and went over the cliff into a gorge. In about 10 seconds he had departed this Earth.

I mention this because the following Saturday, his memorial service at the Women's Community Building was blocked by a similar rowdy group of peace-at-any-pricers. As we left the service (which was heavily attended despite the impediment and cacaphony from outside), I couldn't help but contrast the life of my son, a blazing light in the murkiness of Ithaca, to that of his generational counterparts who were wasting theirs.

He would've thought they were nutcases too. On the other hand, he also would have loved them, gone into their midst and offered to pray for them.

Do they fly the Troll flag too?

Trolls are like a shooting star, they burn bright for a split second, then fizzle out.
