Houston Mother Loses Fight To Keep Baby On Life Support Baby Sun Born With Fatal Genetic Disorder

POSTED: 11:23 am EST March 15, 2005 UPDATED: 6:29 pm EST March 15, 2005

HOUSTON -- A critically ill baby at the center of a lengthy court battle died Tuesday shortly after being removed from life support at a Houston hosptal.

A judge in Houston on Monday lifted an injunction the mother had won that prevented doctors from halting the care they believed was futile.

Sun Hudson was born with a fatal genetic disorder.

Wanda Hudson unsuccessfully fought to continue the medical care for her 5-month-old son, Sun. The boy was diagnosed with a fatal genetic disorder that left him with a tiny chest and lungs that were too small to support life.

Texas Children's Hospital said it was "deeply saddened" to report that Sun Hudson died from the affects of a lethal and incurable genetic deformity.

Nasty stuff.

Our society is now so inured to such disrespect for life.

How about we sell your house to pay back the hospital for the bills.

I don't know..I'm torn here. I think if this was my little guy,as heart wrenching as it would be, I'd have to let him go. It seems kind of cruel to keep such a tiny little angle hooked up to man made machines when it's pretty clear there is no way for him to survive.

No. Your house.

We will euthanize you for the better of society if you object.

Poor little baby. It sounds like his mother was using some *bad* drugs.

"She believes her child was conceived with the sun in the sky, which is why she named him Sun. "No one was with me when I was alone on a cold, winter night being shown the beauty of the earth. I've never seen the moon and the stars the way the sun above showed the moon and the stars to me," Hudson said."

WTF?

Did you have a cure? Or was he supposed to go on existing on the end of an air tube until he was brain dead?

We have discussed this case on numerous threads. This is NOT a case of euthanasia. This child has a congenital defect that is GUARANTEED to be terminal. No child has ever lived past a few short years, and only then with extensive, difficult medical care. Most are born stillborn or live only a few short months. This child requires assistance to breathe now as it is, and even that will eventually fail. What is more, the doctors claim that were the child not sedated, he would be suffering terribly as a result of the ARTIFICIAL extension of its life. Finally, I would point out that the hospital is even paying the mother's legal bills.

No, I'm not telling you to shut up, but if you're going to claim it's euthanasia, you'd better make your case.

I don't consider this a case of euthanasia either. Sadly I've seen genetic defects in our family. It's not an easy thing to live with for the person affected or the family who loves that person.

I think the right thing was done in this case and the mom will have to deal with her grief.

A mom can never truly deal with her grief when a child dies. It is a brave person that has a child in the first place because the possibility that the child is taken before the parent is too much to bear. God love her and stand by her as I know he will!

It is more pathetic to see and hear her on TV. Greta had her and her attorney on recently, it was beyond absurd. The attorney ought to have insisted on appearing alone. The mother is a space cadet first class. She feel that Sun will be healed by the sun. At first I thought she was talking about Jesus Christ, but no. I read on another thread she has recently been hospitalized. It is a said situation. I hope that the baby is not suffering during this.

Too true, I can't think of anything in life that terrorizes me like the thought of losing a child. May God be with her as we know he is with her son.

It wasn't euthanasia. Terry Schivo(spel?) is euthanasia.
