BANGKOK, Thailand - Call it the Case of the Missing Cobras all 82 of them.
The deadly snakes were apparently stolen from a Red Cross facility, and police fear they were destined for the stew pot.
The King Cobras had been kept with other poisonous snakes at the Red Cross' compound in downtown Bangkok, where they are milked for their poison to be used as serum for snakebite medicine.
Workers discovered that 62 snakes went missing in January. After 20 more were gone on Feb. 2, Red Cross veterinarian Montri Chiewbamrungkiet filed a complaint with police.
Authorities said they suspect a Red Cross employee stole the cobras, which have never escaped through the steel nets that enclose the cement pits where they lived.

"Cobra Stew" would be an awesome name for a band.
Or an attack helo fan website.
Or a model contest award-winning diorama...

You'd think SOMEBODY would start thinking "thief" after 62 turned up missing.

Cold, yes.
Ugly, matter of opinion. I think they're beautiful
Slimy, no.
I've owned several snakes before (all nonvenomous of course).
The one I miss the most is a Burmese python. I raised it from a baby. When I bought it, it measured 19 inches long and weighed about 4 ounces. When I sold it it measured 14 feet, 8 inches and weighted 84 pounds.
The key was to get it used to being around people. Once it was used to people, it actually enjoyed being handled. I think it liked the body heat. It was a very docile snake. I miss it to this day. Had to sell it. Neighbors started complaining.

I once saw a Food Network show where the host ate the beating heart of a newly-killed Cobra.
Awful.

After 20 more were gone on Feb. 2, Red Cross veterinarian Montri Chiewbamrungkiet filed a complaint with police.Okay, we'll get right on that. As soon as we get all these traffic tickets filed away. And we should take care of that mandatory civil rights training this week. And this station house could use a thorough top to bottom cleaning. Just fill out this complaint form and leave it with us.

I'm not a snake fan either, but they're not slimy. Very dry and nice to touch. And a surprising number of non-poisonous snakes won't bite even if you handle them carelessly. Just yesterday I walk into the living room and Silverback Junior is watching some nature show. The host is busy catching water snakes down south for a seasonal zoo exhibit They were non-poisonous, but trying to bite him like nobody's business. But later in the program, he was handling other species of non-poisonous snakes without even getting a hold near their head, and these snakes looked like they were thinking, "Wow, I'm on TV!" Totally docile. One was more interested in smelling the camera with its tongue than anything else.

You forgot to mention that the stew is best washed down with King Cobra malt liquor.

Will there be a Gone in Sixty Seconds II with Nick Cage trying to steal 82 Cobras from the Red Cross?
