Blogging Beyond the Men's Club (A Little White Male Bashing)
Newsweek ^ | March 14, 2005 | Steven Levy

Posted on 03/13/2005 9:40:26 PM PST by Coastal

At a recent Harvard conference on bloggers and the media, the most pungent statement came from cyberspace. Rebecca MacKinnon, writing about the conference as it happened, got a response on the "comments" space of her blog from someone concerned that if the voices of bloggers overwhelm those of traditional media, "we will throw out some of the best ... journalism of the 21st century."

The comment was from Keith Jenkins, an African-American blogger who is also an editor at The Washington Post Magazine [a sister publication of NEWSWEEK]. "It has taken 'mainstream media' a very long time to get to [the] point of inclusion," Jenkins wrote. "My fear is that the overwhelmingly white and male American blogosphere ... will return us to a day where the dialogue about issues was a predominantly white-only one."

One of the surest signs of a racist is when a person brings up race when it has no bearing on the subject, but for some folks, race is everything. They are racists, of course, since race is all that matters. But we cannot say that in polite society if they are Liberal and black.

Well said! ... to the top of the class. In essence, they say a Native Born, English (American) speaking Caucasian, Male is fair game for bigotry, but the accuser is not to be critiqued. The mantra of a "level playing field" is meant to exclude ability, education, training, experience .. oh sum it up - White Males.

"My fear is that the overwhelmingly white and male American blogosphere ... will return us to a day where the dialogue about issues was a predominantly white-only one."

Now let's see if the blogosphere can self-organize itself to find them.

These lunatics remind me of the people who used to compare the Supreme Soviet favorably the United States Congress because the Soviet body had 50% women and was therefore more "representative." The fact that none of its members were democratically elected didn't even register.

The blogosphere is a genuinely free market of ideas--and that's why, as with all freedom, the Left hates it.

Heaven Forfend ... Freedom and merit will triumph over political correctness!

Nobody knows your ethnic background or private parts plumbing on the internet. So if you are good, there is nothing to fear.

Those who fear freedom are those who enjoy a privilege that depends on a lack of it.

When blogging, content is king. If Mr. Jenkins' capabilities are not up to the standards of the new media, perhaps he should take up a less taxing profession like teaching. At least in academia, people will be sure to note the color of his skin.

"But is there a way to promote diversity online, given the built-in decentralization of the blog world? Jenkins, whose comment started the discussion, says that any approach is fine—except inaction. "You can't wait for it to just happen," he says."

Ah, the MSM is hammering the anti-blog agenda. The article espouses that MSM has adressed concerns of racism, but that those evil white bloggers don't and thats bad, bad, bad...Something, ANYTHING must be done-except inaction?

And the real problem with some of these people discussing it (white male dominance of the blogosphere) isn't that they're discussing it, it's that they don't want any answer but to accuse the white male of racism. Outcomes do happen that reflect disproportionately towards one race or group. For instance, black men dominate the NBA. No white women are there. Does this mean the NBA is racist? Or does it mean that many black Americans have taken the game and made it a prime form of exercise, recreation, and enthusiasm, which they begin playing earlier in life and stop playing later in life? That's a fair type of question. There are reasons for difference in outcome. But I doubt that anyone who laments the decline of the MSM and the presumed lessening of black opinions is going to conduct a reasonable or fair hearing. The only thing that really gets me is that the Jews have tied up the comedian business. (That's a joke, but here too, a group out does many others).

Again, well said. I think they lament the ability to diminish the opinion of the White Male. Thank God I am retired. When I worked and the employer asked intrusive questions, I always wrote / checked : OTHER - Native Born, American speaking, College Educated, White male. In essence, we have been treated as a minority without the privileges for a generation AT LEAST!

LOL! That's one of Joe Steel's quotes I wasn't familiar with. Perhaps the Duranty Times should put it on its masthead. It would be much more in keeping with their overall journalistic standard than the old "all the news that's fit to print" nonsense!

Well, that's what we freepers do, ya know. We race to see who can say the obvious. This time I beat you by pointing out LaShawna Barber is far more astute that this guy. By the way, have you noticed that no one has brought up Dr. Thomas Sowell, who is probably one of the leading experts on these types of issues?

You know when it all gets really interesting for the race experts and social engineers is when they have to deal with children of mixed racial heritage. That's a real curve ball for them. Of course, it's easy to game the system. The kids just claim the most beneficial race as the situation requires. It's goofy when it's not malicious.

"I am a Conservative, Republican, patriotic American, supporter of our military, small-Government, pro-life, pro-family, pro-freedom, favor smaller and more accountable Government, believe in lower taxes and tax rates, I also think we should stop growing Federal spending; support property rights and free markets as best for the economy and our freedom; supporting our military, Bush and winning the War on Terror; secure borders and better immigration policy that enforces the law; I believe in the family as a building block of civilization and support pro-life and pro-family policies; I believe in choice - education choice, the 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms, social security choice and reform; I oppose Judicial activism and support judicial restraint and conservative interpretation of law. I oppose Socialism; and I oppose letting the UN dictate our foreign policy."

Oh you MUST BE WHITE! /sarcasm

"But is there a way to promote diversity online, given the built-in decentralization of the blog world?"

The answer is NO, and for those not keeping up, that's the power of freedom. NO ONE can control it. It's free!

This is even beyond capitalism, in that the market doesn't decide anything--the manufacturer of the intellectual property does. And that can be ANYONE.

The social planners are TERRIFIED of freedom, because "their" version of equality has NO BEARING.

This guy can't seem to understand that the worst thing for his liberal ilk is that true freedom doesn't need liberals' permission. It just happens.
