Holt wants Apology For Race-Baiting Claims (Jim Holt, R-AR)
The Hometown Channel ^ | 3/11/2005

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Sen. Jim Holt, R-Springdale, asked for an apology Thursday From Gov. Mike Huckabee and everyone who said he was race-baiting by writing a law to deny state benefits to illegal immigrants.

Holt was emboldened by an attorney general's opinion released Thursday that said a bill backed by Huckabee to extend college scholarships and in-state tuition to the children of illegal immigrants may violate federal law and the U.S. Constitution.

After reading Attorney General Mike Beebe's legal opinion Thursday, Holt said: "It's nice to be vindicated."

Beebe said the Huckabee-backed education bill, which was proposed by Rep. Joyce Elliot of Little Rock, could violate a federal law that says the children of illegal immigrants cannot receive higher education benefits unless they are also available to U.S. citizens who are residents of other states.

Elliot's bill only offers the tuition breaks and state-sponsored scholarships to immigrant children who attended Arkansas high schools for at least three years and who graduated from an Arkansas school.

Why would a guy that sang and played at the FReeper Ball, be so out of touch with the conservatives?

Because he buys the assinine comment about family values not stopping at the border?
Serious, the problem is that our ruling class has no time for sovereignty or nationalism and those who disagree largely lack the certitude to stand up for America.

Because he isn't much of a conservative...kinda like Jum Jeffords, ya know? Huckabee is my Governor, & you should hear all of the criticism my fellow Arkie FReepers have given to Gov. Huckabee! They can explain it a lot better than I can, 'cuz I haven't been keeping up w/ state politics as much as they have been.

"Gov. Mike Huckabee Thursday denounced a bill by Sen. Jim Holt that would deny state benefits to illegal immigrants as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life."

Un-American?

Thanks for the ping, MW.

Bob...Gov. Mike made the statement that he and Holt don't drink the same "Jesus Juice". What a stupid thing to say.

He is not the same man we elected and I will never trust him again.

Unfortunately, he sounds a little like the ex-governor of my state, George W. Bush, when it comes to sympathy for and rights for illegal immigrants---

I have a feeling that the more illegal immigrants that get special privileges in getting into colleges and universities, the more "Ward Churchills" will end up in the country--people that don't have an allegience or love of the country--

Oh, and also, I wonder if Gov. Huckabee wants all of the classes to be taught in SPANISH?

But he's not out of touch with President Bush, the House and Senate leadership and the party establishment. As Bush has proven, to be elected President as a Republican, you must throw a few bones to the base but toe the party line on issues that matter to the establishment, namely: free trade, globalization and open borders. The elites need their peasant class at the expense of America's middle class and working class.

My hunch is Huckabee thinks this is the ticket to higher office. If that's true he like so many politicians are more out of touch than I thought.

That's the first thing I wondered, too. With this bill, Huckabee is saying, "Hey taxpayers! Flop open your wallets - - we're confiscating your money to pay the college bills for illegal alien families."

Thanks, Mike.
