Margarito Origel has finished serving time in prison for his role in the beating death of Megan Mendez, a preschooler who authorities found buried in his south Modesto back yard four years ago.
Now Origel wants to stay in the United States. But he is not a citizen, and, as a convicted felon, he is subject to deportation to his native Mexico.

I know we have a law in California that if two people are involved in a burglary, and one of them kills someone the other can also be found guilty of murder just for being involved. Even if this man didn't touch this little girl, just the fact that he knew of the abuse and took part in hiding her body I think makes him just as guilty. He and whatever lawyers want to help him stay in the country have A LOT of nerve asking that the charges be dropped to a misdemeanor --just because the deportation procedures are so merciless. Murdering and hiding the body of a small child is merciless.
A foreigner coming here and murdering a US citizen is an act of war. He should be executed as a war criminal.
lets put him on a plane to Mexico and then at some point over the Pacific, open the door and see if he can fly....
Child murderers and rapists should be forfeit life when found guilty.
No.
Sorry, but I could only put in an excerpt. And you need to register to view the story online.
"But her body was stored in a freezer for a while before being buried in the couple's yard."
How did her body get in a freezer? How did she die?
Get out the rope!
Supposedly the man's wife beat her to death. So he only received a short sentence becuase he didn't kill her himself. I put the "but" in there because the death and hiding of the body all happened in his home. If he'd tried to stop his wife from abusing the child, or turned his wife in after the murder, I'd be a little more understanding of his plight. But even if there is no proof that he carried her body to the freezer or dug her grave in his own back yard, there is overwhelming proof that he did nothing when a horrible crime was happening in his own home. I don't see how a person can get a charge like that dropped to a misdemeanor.
C'mon. He probably won't do it again. Let him stay!

...in Death Row.
Why should this guy worry? Just go back to Mexico, then return illegally. No one will notice.
Margareto: Is that the Mexican equivalent of a boy named Sue?
Child murderers and VIOLENT rapists should be forfeit life when found guilty.
I agree he should stay in the states, dead and buried. The fact he is still alive speaks poorly of the justice system.
