I think we might be missing Obama's point on this one. He is not questioning Bush's assertion that whites live longer than blacks. He is offended that, rather than examining the reasons behind the racial disparity in life expectancy, Bush is merely offering blacks the option of private accounts. I think Obama is implying that if given the choice, blacks would rather the President tackle racist sentencing guidelines, poverty, inadequate public education, and health care, than give them the option of investing in private accounts because they don't normally live to see 55.

It doesn't matter what any Republicans say before or after the words "African American", the liberals will still find a way to be offended.

Funny thing is, I heard Chris Rock make the same remarks on Social Security and premature death of black men. Guess he was being racist, too?

GWB is talking about Social Security. You can't complain about his speech because it didn't address every other issue under the sun.

Maybe Obama should have been offended when Bush first said this a couple of months ago. Doesn't he read a newspaper? Did he really just now today find out that Bush has been saying this?

It is good to know that Osama Obama and the KKK are on the exact same wavelength. Sheets Byrd must be so proud of his new house slave.

I don't think Chris Rock was making that comment to advocate social security privitization. If I remember correctly, the second half of his comment was "So we should start collecting social security at 35!" I think both Chris Rock and Barak Obama are making the same point - what needs to change is the fact that blacks die sooner, not their social security benifits.

I would think that Sen. Osama would not want black men subsidizing old, rich white women.

I think it will be Richardson because it takes away from Jeb/Rudi's/Condi inroads on the Hispanic vote.

But it could be Obama...

True. However, it was George Bush who first attempted to tie race into the social security issue, not Obama. I think Obama is offended by Bush's insinuation that the solution to the racial disparity in life excectancy is SS privitization, and not changes in sentancing guidelines, public education, poverty, healthcare, and a variety of other issues that contribute mush more to blacks not living longer that their inability in invest in private accounts.

Sorry but I never got an 'insinuation' from GWB that privatizing Social Security is the way to ending racial "disparity" in this country.

GWB's solution to ending the so-called disparity is to hopefully get the government OUT of our lives and OFF of our backs.

True, the comments were made back in 1999, way before the privatization issue came up. And clearly, we should be concerned about black survival rates in this country. But why is Bush branded a racist by Obama for saying the same thing that Rock made an observation about?

Oh, wait, I forgot, only white people can be racist.

Won't happen -- White democrats won't vote for a black candidate. Look at 1983/1987 Chicago mayoral elections for all the evidence you will ever need.
