Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. Bible In One Year: Joshua 1-3

A number of years ago I was in the library of a prestigious university. As I walked among the bookshelves, I happened to pass by a row of small cubicles set aside for study and spied a student reading a Bugs Bunny comic book. I almost laughed out loud. Here was a young man surrounded by the wisdom of the ages, yet immersed in childish trivia.

There's nothing wrong with comic books, and all of us need occasional respite from study, but some of us never get beyond trivial pursuits. Books, magazines, and other media are the preoccupation and primary influence in our lives. How foolish! We have in our hands the Word of Life-the Book that tells us how to know God and live abundantly.

The greatest cause for our neglect of the Bible is not lack of time but lack of heart. Someone else's word is taking the place of the Word of Christ. There are many good books and magazines to read, but we must not neglect the mysteries of God's grace and love that are written on every page of the Bible. That's where we find everything we need for "life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3).

Ask God to give you a desire for His Word and a hunger to taste His goodness every day. -David Roper

My Grandma is coming home from the hospital today.

I'm happy. She will be 89 on May 10 and has had Alzheimer's for about 10 years but she still says funny things that make lonestar laugh--"I luuuuuuv you! Who are you?" Or, "I just love you! Sometimes!" And she sings, "I love you, you love me." Her doctor calls her "Barney"--and my Grandma never even heard of Barney!

Great to hear your grandma is coming home from hospital today. Alzheimer's is so hard my mother had to go into care last November when we could no longer look after her adequately at home trust that she will be able to remain at home for as long as she can.

Miss Billie ... the days of the week have been blurring together as I've been working every day for a few weeks ... but, I am aware it's Friday ... )

I'm leaving in a couple of days for my first trip overseas, and will be gone the better part of two weeks.

Like my hero, Sean Thornton, I'm off to Ireland ... traveling with Mom and Dad to the old city of Cork to watch my eldest nephew, Johnny Five, have his American wedding to his Irish bride be blessed by Church and her family.

The first Flinn in America came from Cork, back in 1670, so i'll be visiting a place of my origins even further back than Texas.

Nervous, excited, ready for a break ... but, I know I'll be glad to be back home when it's time.

I'll be Freepin' in my heart while I'm gone.
