Exaggerations and sometimes outright lies historically have been part of every politically divisive issue. President Bush's plan for partial Social Security privatization is a dream for these two giant professional propagandists:
AARP, which takes a liberal approach to government handouts to older folks. It is financed mostly by its 35 million members ages 50 and older.
USA Next, a much smaller but well-heeled conservative group. It is funded mostly by younger business and industry leaders.
This week, as Bush started a blitz to sell his plan, both groups geared up and faced off in print and on the air. USA Next's Chairman Charlie Jarvis says his group's "initial" campaign to support Bush's plan will cost $10 million. AARP has spent about $5 million to date to oppose the plan, media spokesman Steve Hahn says. Both will spend more.

To act as a counterweight to the AARP, each and every conservative must talk to their parents and tell them what is going on, let them know the truth and the AARP will be marginalized as a weapon and SS reform. This effort will not cover every member of AARP because some don't have children, but for those who do, who would you believe? Your children or some organization taking fees? This must be a grass roots operation.
Don't deceive people by showing the source of this as USA Today, and then having the URL point to USA Next. You're just as bad as the left by doing this.
All the government needs to do is quit spending SS money, problem solved.
"Don't deceive people by showing the source of this as USA Today, and then having the URL point to USA Next. You're just as bad as the left by doing this."
No kidding! Thanks for pointing out the deceit. Should be:

That's pretty bad to misattribute the source in both the title and link
Chill. Link to USA Today was not allowed by FR. Article is posted on the other site.
You're asking me to chill, deceiver?
DITTO!
But maybe more importantly, USA Today could probably take legal action against FR for allowing this. Or at the least create legal havoc and expense for Jim Rob - which NONE OF US want.
Thank you for clearing this up for all of us!
Where are the mod police when they are needed?
Absolutely correct...
Many don't want to think or plan, they live from paycheck to paycheck, day to day, and all they want to know is that their stipend from the FedNanny will be there when they retire... ( as soon as legally possible.)
The idea of actively getting involved in thinking or analyzing the Social Security mess is too much for them..
( It's Socialist brainwashing and just plain apathy, but it keeps the masses in line.. )
