Bush to Visit CIA After Director Goss Says He's Not Sure of His Future Role By Tom Raum Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House spoke supportively of CIA Director Porter Goss Thursday despite his suggestion that his job had "a huge amount of ambiguity in it" because of a law reorganizing the intelligence community.

Goss and John D. Negroponte, Bush's nominee for a new national post with sweeping oversight responsibilities, "have a good working relationship. I think everybody understands the importance of the reforms we're working to put into place," presidential spokesman Scott McClellan said.

President Bush, who brought Negroponte back to the United States from his position as U.S. ambassador to Iraq for the job of national intelligence director, visited CIA headquarters in nearby Langley, Va., later Thursday.

The trip was seen as an effort to boost morale at the agency - and an opportunity for Bush to reassure CIA employees of their vital role now that the agency's director will no longer be the lead U.S. intelligence officer. The head of the CIA has enjoyed that position of primacy in intelligence affairs for over 60 years.

In a rare public appearance Wednesday in Simi Valley, Calif., Goss said the new law left him unclear on his own future role.

"It's got a huge amount of ambiguity in it," he said. "I don't know by law what my direct relationship is with John Negroponte," Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld or other top officials involved with intelligence.

The bogus and adulterated "9-11 Commission" recommendations has open up the CIA to "sharing" information with other agencies.

Director Gross may well get used to being used as a scapegoat for all ills associated with failure, If enemies, like Democrat operatives, (Kennedy, Shumer, Pelosi, Boxer, the Black Cactus, et al) are privy to sensitive information.

Why does Goss waste 5 hours preparing to brief the pres each day? I think the Pres and Goss need to delegate more.

?....Why not allow all of the intelligence agencies run 100% 'black' like all foreign agencies do?

The 'cream' and 'scum' will take care of themselves....no retirement?

You know the president also visited the pentagon when Rumsfeld was having a hard time during the abu g. scandal. Maybe this visit will be another pep talk. Or maybe a talk about dealing with the biased media.

Yeah. I agree. The 911 commission was a mess. What we needed was more differentation---the creation of an MI5, like Gr. Britain has, to handle spy stuff inside the US.

The FBIs record on this has been incredibly bad, like a major league ballplayer batting .95 or something. They are an organization designed to deal with crime, period. You can argue their record on that subject. On espionage, they aer beneath contempt.

We need MI5, but the Liberals said that would be like "1984." Even though Britain's MI5 is heavily constricted in many ways---all kinds of controls.

So instead, we get this "soupy" solution---more cooperation. Its a disaster---needs to be repealed, really.

So there you have it.

A PC war ... until it gets to our house.

What was that I heard the other day? ... Something about our borders being overrun? ;)

Yeah, that situation would be beyond the capability of any intelligence agency to deal with. Intelligence agency people are specialists who deal in "retail" numbers of bad guys. For "wholesale" numbers, you need law enforcement, border patrol, etc. Without them, intelligence is pretty helpless. Millions of extra "targets" for investigation a year is pretty hopeless.
