Here are some excerpts from a report by the official news agency in Libya on Muammar al-Qathafi's statements:
The Leader underscored the need to launch full freedom in Libya, the Jamahiri state " the state of men and women, a country which is all civilian society and is self- run."
He called for lifting all restrictions that stand in the face of this, so that Libyans be fully free in selecting economic activities, including founding companies on partnership bases, or on the bases of wages " work with fees". The leader also underscored the freedom of faith, worship, and religion, since the righteousness and the taboos are clear, and that we are not in a dark, reactionary closed and theocratic society. He also emphasized the freedom to establish various economic, social and scientific institutions.
He pointed out that oil companies are striving for oil in Libya, but they would not come to Libya and invest billions if economic policies are not stable, and if they are not certain that their properties would not be nationalized.
In this respect, the leader called on the Basic People's Congresses to enact laws prohibiting nationalization, explaining that in the past, there were nationalization, because prior to the revolution companies came to Libya on exploitative bases and to exploit Libyan resources with unfair terms for the Libyan peoples resources, therefore, it was a must that those wrong situation be rectified at the time.
Interesting to see his name spelled differently, yet again.
I really wish he would spell his name correctly.
I'm starting to suspect he plans it that way on purpose..

Muhammar is hot! He is modern, up to date. He needs to decrease the scope of his gov't while increasing demand for economic institutions, and he can do this since his country is already doing not bad.

Khadaffi is not stupid. After what he saw in Iraq he had a feeling that he was next. I think his options was save my butt or face the US..

Kevin you are exactly right.....after 9/11 there were two people who needed to be taken out..Khadaffi and Saddam.
Saddam was hunted down and pulled from a rat hole. Khadaffi didn't want that fate.
He handed over the keys to the kingdom without a shot being fired.
Well, he hasn't promoted himself from Colonel to General yet...how smart can he be?
Taking out Iraq will pay dividends for years to come.
