Sheriff Harry Lee Furious

UPDATED: 8:53 am EST February 25, 2005

GRETNA, La. -- Rapper C-Murder, in jail in the New Orleans, La., area awaiting a murder trial, has angered the local sheriff with his plans to release a music video and compact disc, parts of which were recorded behind bars.

"I'm angry," said Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee. "I'm angry because I trusted people, and they sandbagged me."

The rapper, whose real name is Corey Miller, has been in the Jefferson Parish jail for more than three years, facing a second-degree murder charge in the killing of a 16-year-old inside a nightclub. He was found guilty in September 2003, but his conviction was thrown out in April 2004.

While awaiting his second trial, Miller has created a 17-song album set to be released March 22. An early version of a music video of the song "Y'all Heard of Me" shows Miller in jail, in an orange prison outfit, complaining that he and other poor black people are victims of racial profiling.

Lee said he had been unaware that the rapper had made music and video recordings from behind bars. Lee said he was tricked and the filming was done without his permission. Video

Sheriff Harry Lee Says He Was 'Sandbagged'

The rapper's lawyer, Ron Rakosky, said the footage in the video was recorded by two film crews: one for Court TV, the other with a local cable-access show. Rakosky said both film crews received permission from the sheriff's office to interview Miller inside the jail.

"I called Mr. Rakosky today, and I said, 'I understand that you were there when this was going on,'" Lee said. "And he said, 'Yes, I was there.' And I said, 'Do you believe when I gave you permission to do the interview that I thought you were going to do a video?' And he said, 'I didn't think I needed your permission.'"

Lee said he plans to even the score.

"If there's some kind of way -- and we're researching that as we speak -- that if he makes some money from this, I may charge him rent," Lee said.

Kind of a twisted world when spending time in prison ups your "street cred" and helps boost your album sales.

Trusting murdering rappers and their agents isn't too bright for a sheriff, no?

That is the most hilarious thing i have ever read. C-Murder is NOT poor. His older brother is worth over 250 million dollars! His sibling, who goes by the name Master P, even declared bankruptcy in a rather clever scheme to get the IRS off his back. He said that his record label 'No Limit Records' was bankrupt a couple of years ago, filed the paperwork himself, and once the stuff went through re-started the same label a day later under the name the 'New No Limit Records.' And the IRS couldn't even touch him, or any of his money. Although Master-P is kind of well versed ....he after all turned a 10,000 dollar insurance settlement into 250 million dollars of personal money and over 300 of company money.

C-Murder, while not nearly as rich (or financially adept) as his brother, is NOT poor. What he is is a murderous sonna-f-gun who has a penchant for shooting people who irritate him in the face. For no reason apart from the fact that they stood up to him or treated him in a way that did not exactly make him overjoyed! This is not the first time he has shot someone, and if he gets out it will not be the last.

C-Murder deserves jail. Anyone who feels it is his right to degrade others, and shoot them without cause or regard, and thinks himself above the law deserves to be shut down.

If I was the prosecutor I'd make it exhibit #1 at sentencing on the issue of rehabilitative potential.

Writing rap lyrics in jail isn't too uncommon. "One thing led to another, now you're my baby's mother," is my favorite line. A music video, though, now that' s impressive!

Did Paris France make him an honorary citizen yet? After all he claims he is the victim, and that`s all it takes for France to honor you. (Yes, suprise, the French are this sick)

Mumia Made Honorary Citizen of Paris

On October 4, 2003, the city of Paris made an honorary citizen of celebrated US death row inmate and black activist Mumia Abu-Jamal, falsely accused and sentenced to death for the 1981 murder of white Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner.

It is the first time Paris has bestowed the honor since Pablo Picasso was made honorary citizen in 1971, Socialist Mayor of Paris Bertrand Delanoe told an audience of 200 people, taking the occasion to attack the barbarity of the death penalty. In attacking the "barbarity called the death penalty," the mayor said "as long as there is a place on this planet where one can be killed in the name of the community, we haven't finished our work." Raising his fist in a sign of solidarity, Delanoe then shouted "Mumia is a Parisian!" as the crowd cheered and applauded.

Black activist Angela Davis, a former member of the Black Panthers and the Communist Party, hailed the "profound sense of humanity" of Abu-Jamal, attacking American unilateralism and racist attacks against immigrants.

The movement to free Mumia Abu-Jamal "takes on a new sense in face of American unilateralism, the aggression against the Iraqi people and the racist attacks against immigrants which can only further gnaw away at the vestiges of democracy in the United States," said Davis, a professor at the University of California in Santa Cruz.

Mumia Abu-Jamal, a former Black Panther civil rights activist and journalist who has maintained his innocence, was sentenced to death 21 years ago for the murder of Daniel Faulkner. and scores of movements and organizations have sprung up around the world in his defense.

Abu-Jamal is regarded worldwide as the most well-known political prisoner on death row. Another person, Arnold Beverly, has come forward to claim responsibility for the death of Officer Daniel Faulkner. Both the federal and state appeals courts have to this day refused to hear this significant testimony that should have led to Abu-Jamal's freedom.

His case has provoked particularly vivid debate in France, which abolished the death penalty in 1981. French school children are required to study the case as part of their education.

Notice how they claim in the first paragraph he was "falsely accused". I guess they never read this..

This is funny:

National News Front Page
Rapper C-Murder Charged with Murder
http://www.umich.edu/~uac/threeweeks/story98fb.html?vol=3&iss=6&sto=7

New Orleans police arrested rapper C-Murder on Friday in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year old on January 12th.

"This was the easiest case we've ever had," said New Orleans police chief John Jacobsen. "We don't actually have any evidence, but come on! His name is C-Murder! Do you need any more proof than that?"

C-Murder's cousin, F-Murder, is outraged by the arrest. "Arresting him because his last name is Murder? This is profiling at its worst! It doesn't make sense. I mean, his last name is Murder and he may have murdered someone, but he is not a Murder-er."

Johnny Cochrane, C-Murder's attorney, agrees. "You can't judge a person by their name. I mean, is Dr. Dre really a doctor who did graduate work at The Old School? Was Snow really a form of precipitation? Were the Fat Boys really fat? Okay, bad example. But is MC Hammer really a tool? Again, bad example. But what about Ice-T? Is he really a refreshing beverage? I mean, in the literal sense? No, of course not. I rest my case."

C-Murder, whose legal name is Curtis W. Shoplifting III, would not respond to accusations.
