Be careful what you wish for. There isn't a name-recognizable Pubbie who could beat her right now.

The only real 'threat' would be Dr. Rice, but only because (1) she is female and (2) she is a Black female. She has never held elective position, and some of her political positions are left of the conservative base.

Kerry almost won, and he did it by running on a record of 4 months in Vietnam 35 years ago.

Like it or not, Hillary is a superstar. And right now, the Pubbies don't have anyone capable, politically, of taking her on. [I still think Guliani used his prostate surgery as an excuse not to face her in her Senate run. Note that Kerry had p.s. a year before he ran for the Presidency.]

Pubbies need a 'political' superstar to face Hillary, and they don't have one on stage---yet. Maybe the RNC has someone in mind, but none of the commonly tossed names will beat Hillary. Not McCain, Hagel, Gingrich, Frist, Guliani, etc.
