A recent Gallup poll indicates that Democratic Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's strength among women reaches into Republican and Independent circles.
The finding, analysts say, could give her a much better chance of winning a general election should she seek the presidency in 2008.
The poll also shows that the junior New York senator has a more favorable image among women than men, 58 percent women as opposed to 48 percent of men.
Gerald Benjamin, dean of the liberal arts college at SUNY at New Paltz says Clinton has wooed voters by staking out centrist positions on a range of issues including abortion and the war in Iraq.
The Director of the Marist Institute of Polling, Lee Miringoff, said that although the support among women is beneficial, Clinton is far from getting the party's Democratic nomination, should she decide to run.

Remember, in New York you have alot of Carolyn McCarthy-types in suburbia who are registered Republican but are Dems through and through.

I don't have a subscription to Gallup so I can't find out if this was a NY poll or a U.S. Poll!

Carolyn McCarthy, said she had to support Cuomo because he was against the death penalty for murderers, and considered herself proudly Catholic.
She then got elected to congress and proceeded to vote against a ban on partial birth abortion.

How come they never poll me,I will never be on her side.

Carolyn McCarthy represents my childhood congressional district. I miss Ray McGrath. Heck, I even miss Dan "No Show" Frisa compared to Carolyn.

Bubba drew well in Pubbie women in 1992 and 1996. There are enough Pubbie women around who will vote for the Girl ticket unless they are given a reasonable alternative.
This is one of the reasons I'm a big Rice supporter.

Somebody has to tell the media that there is nothing centrist about someone lying about their distaste for abortions and then still supporting it by law. This is still a lefty view.

Ah yes the ever so reliable polls.
