" The fact remains though that the writers were most likely going for a diliberate slap at Catholic belief if not Christ Himself,"

Am I the only one who saw the show?

" this must be an attempt at a not so clever set up for the writer's opportunity to "flush Christ down a toillet"

It didn't happen. They didn't flush the host. It was never in any toilet. The writer of the article got it wrong. The show was quite respectful of Catholics and communion.

Am I the only one who saw the show?

"From what was said if it WERE true"

Don't Shout!!!

It isn't true. It didn't happen. A whole bunch of people are getting their panties in a wad because the author of the article got it wrong. He didn't see the show either. I did.

Am I the only one who saw the show?

One more time: It didn't happen. The article is false. All of you who are offended have no reason to be so.

Well, thank you for the clarification. If what you said is correct. You can't blame people for being offended at such a crude act as was STATED. You MUST have been the only one to see the show.

"By far the most offensive scene occurs when Nate and Bowie accidentally flush what they think is the Host down the toilet."

You must excuse us... The article is genuinly confusing on this point. But from your comments it has appeared you were defending the show mostly on the grounds that the characters were "...quite respectful of Catholics and communion;" an argument that is neither here nor there assuming that the offending scenes actually took place as indicated in the article.

But if you are right, and none of the scenes took place then Newsmax needs to be corrected.

Here is what Newsmax wrote: "An episode of the NBC sitcom "Committed,” featuring two characters who flush a Communion wafer down a toilet, "

This is patently wrong. Here's the story line.

At a funeral, a jewish man with obsessive compulsive disorders accidentally gets into a communion line and is given a host wafer. He realizes that he should not have it and that it is sacred to Catholics. He is too embarrassed (and neurotic) to simply give it back to the priest. The man and his friend attend the wake and try to find a way to return the host to the priest without him knowing it. The host eventually ends up on a tray and the priest eats it.

There is, in fact, a scene where the neurotic men believe they may have accidentally dropped the host into a toilet with an automatic flush. They are both mortified because they realize the significance of the host. They see the word "Nabisco" on the wafer in the toilet and are relieved.

End of story.

Newsmax got it wrong and a whole lot of people are getting steamed for no reason.

Reading down this thread it is almost laughable how little
Catholics know and understand Protestants and vice versa.

Protestants are called that because they were protesting
various doctrines and beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church.
Therefore all of the Orthodox faiths are not Protestant, since
Catholic and Orthodox began as the same church and split
from each other long before the Protestant Reformation.

Catholics have Seven Sacraments:

Baptism
Eucharist
Reconciliation
Confirmation
Marriage
Holy Orders
Anointing of the Sick

Protestants only two:

Baptism
Communion

Additionally the major protestant differences are;

Lutherans practice Confession but not as a Sacrament
Presbyterians believe in Predestination
Baptists refuse baptism to infants and small children.
Methodists believe in free will and prefer baptism for infants

Here is an interesting link to A Comparative Chart of Christian Beliefs

"plane" more like "plain" spelling error. you must not be catholic or you would not think it was funny. we believe that it is the real body blood soul and divinity of Christ. 'Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood, the father and I will come and make our home in them." this is our most sacred treasure and sacrament.

respectifully

The host in the show was not the body of Christ since there was no ceremony where the breat transformed into the body of Christ.

We know that. That doesn't mean it was hunky dory to PRETEND a consecrated host (or what the characters thought was a consecrated host) was being profaned.

According to the people who saw the show, the characters weren't trying to do anything wrong, but it's still appalling to me, anyway, that people would make so light of something so sacred.

We call on all who love Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist to speak out today in defense of this Most Sacred part of the Catholic faith.

NBC Show Insults the Holy Eucharist:
Apology Demanded

According to the Catholic League, on February 22, NBC aired an unspeakably blasphemous episode of the sitcom "Committed," in which two non-Catholics accidentally receive the Holy Eucharist at a funeral Mass. Uncertain of what to do, they attempt to slip it into a priests pocket and even placing the Host on a tray of cheese and crackers.

A priest, apparently unable to tell the difference between the Blessed Sacrament and a cracker, is unwilling to eat it, since it is the last one on the tray. Finally, he calls out, "What the hell!" and eats it.

In one particularly offensive scene, they accidentally flush what they think is the Sacred Host down the toilet.

Many Catholics feel that this episode makes a mockery of what Catholics hold sacred and have already raised their voices in protest. America Needs Fatima Director Robert Ritchie stated: "In my opinion, NBC has aired a direct attack on the Catholic Church by mocking and degrading the Sacred Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. You and I must demand an official and unqualified apology from NBC for this most offensive show."

And this is exactly what the TFP web site intends to do. It is calling on all who love Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist to speak out today in defense of this Most Sacred part of the Catholic faith.

However, just speaking out is not enough. Reparation must also be made to Our Lord, since He was the target of the show's mockery. Thus, the TFP web site is also asking faithful Catholics to pledge one hour of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament in reparation for this blasphemy.

Turn your holy anger into effective action right now. Demand an apology from NBC and pledge an hour of adoration in reparation for this blasphemy. Do it now.

Turning the other cheek does not include being indifferent to such a blatant attack on God in the Holy Eucharist.

Be a part of this campaign today!
Here is what you can do!

1. Send an instant protest email.
2. To protest NBC on the phone at 1-800-884-2212.
3. Pledge one hour of meditation before the Blessed Sacrament in reparation for this blasphemy.
4. Email this page to all your friends.
5. Make a financial contribution to the American TFP, to aid its efforts in defense of Holy Mother Church.
6. Join our new interactive discussion board on this topic by clicking here.
