JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - U.S. Sen. Kit Bond said his son Sam, a Marine, was leaving yesterday for Iraq.
Bond, a Republican and former governor, was in Jefferson City to celebrate the anniversary of the Parents as Teachers program. While speaking at the Capitol, Bond noted that his family had gone through the program, and that his son had turned out well.
"My son, a newly minted Marine and an intelligence officer, leaves today for Iraq, so I have a personal understanding of the commitment that is needed by our great voluntary military forces," Bond told the Missouri House.
Sam Bond graduated in July from the Basic School at Quantico, Va., the next level of training after Officer Candidate School. Hes expected to focus on ground intelligence, Bonds office said.
Bond is not the only member of Missouris congressional delegation with children in the military.
Rep. Todd Akin, a Republican from St. Louis, has two sons in the military. Perry Akin also recently graduated from the Basic School and has been serving in Iraq since late December as a Marine combat engineer.
Another son, Micah, is in his second year at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
Michael Moore will be excited to know!
So much for Michael Moore's assertation that no Senator or Representative would have their children go to Iraq.
Lies, like 80% of everything that he says (the remainder is 'creative editing').
Isn't there another Senator or Congressman who has a son in Iraq or Afghanistan?
"So much for Michael Moore's assertation that no Senator or Representative would have their children go to Iraq."
That a-hole Charlier Rangle might want to take note of that as well.
I heard a rumor that there was a waiting list getting into the "Basic School".
I've got a friend leaving for Iraq in a few short weeks...keep him in your prayers.
Godspeed, Marine.
I thought Tim Johnson had a kid in Iraq. Maybe it was Afghanistan.
I will do that. Prayers for his safety and please thank him for his service to our country. And tell him God Bless you from all of us!
He ain't no Senator's son........Semper FI MARINE!!
God Keep and Bless them all, Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Coasties. They're our nation's best, sacrificing so that lesser beings can claim their "rights" without lifting a finger to earn it.
Duncan Hunter (Chairman of House Armed Services Committee) has a son in Iraq.
