The Next Attack (Heads up courtesy DNC mass email)
DNC Email | 22 February 2005 | Tom Hughes

Dear Rodrigo,

STOP THIS AD BEFORE IT STARTS:
012205_aarp.gif

STOP DISHONEST, BIGOTED ATTACKS:
SIGN THE PETITION

The right-wing fringe has declared war on Social Security -- and this week they launched their newest attack.

The ridiculous image you see to the right is the latest from USA Next, a front group for radical conservatives who want to dismantle Social Security.

You won't be surprised to hear who they hired to publicize their efforts: the same team of hatchet men that ran the swift boat smear campaign against John Kerry. Now they are targeting the AARP, a group that millions of seniors rely on to defend their interests.

We must stop these people... now.

Sign our petition to stop these dishonest, bigoted attacks from spreading any further:

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/StopUSANext

Your petition will be delivered to every TV station that aired the swift boat ads during the 2004 campaign and any station that airs this new garbage in 2005. Stations were duped once by this group making false claims -- we can't let it happen again. If TV stations give USA Next a platform, they will be abetting the same kind of disgraceful slander as the swift boat ads.

We know now that a Bush-Cheney campaign official advised the swift boat group. And USA Next has worked closely with the Bush White House in the past.

Now newspaper reports suggest the group is giving President Bush cover -- the New York Times quoted one USA Next source saying that its campaign would be so aggressively negative that the White House can't be seen to be a part of it.

I wasn't sure how low they'd go until I saw the above graphic. I was shocked. Insinuations that the AARP are "communist" on their web site are ridiculous, but USA Next's advertising campaign manages to be both un-patriotic and outrageously bigoted at the same time. It's time to sign the petition to stop the hate speech now:

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/StopUSANext

Mainstream America knows that Social Security is the cornerstone of our social safety net. This Democratic achievement cured an epidemic of poverty and guarantees a retirement with dignity for everyone.

But fringe ideologues and powerful corporate interests want to end all that -- and they are willing to do anything to win. The pharmaceutical industry has used USA Next as a soft-money slush fund for years. And the group is run by a well-known operative from the radical right.

They have committed to spending millions on propaganda and hate-speech to distort the facts and smear their opponents.

Let's draw the line in the sand now:

Thank you,

Tom Hughes

So long as the Left wants to promote gay marriage, it's fair game for the Right to show images of gay marriage in our own political ads.

...That the Left fears such images simply shows that they prefer to keep their agenda hidden.

AARP endorsed gay marriage (aka civil unions), it's true. I don't know why they exed-out the soldier, though.

In my humble opinion, I think a picture with two gays kissing next to our troops is offensive.
Their message gets lost after seeing those pictures.

AARP sells branded financial, credit card and other services. http://www.aarp.org/benefits-financial/ They have an interest in selling their stuff, not in letting you keep your earnings.

"the same team of hatchet men that ran the swift boat smear campaign"

"hatchet men?"
"smear campaign?"
I see, when you agree with people they are "truth tellers" and "courageously speaking truth to power." When you disagree with what someone is saying they receive an inverse degree of hyperbole.

The Dems. continue digging themselves into a hole, proving that they are the anti-free speech party.

This is laughable considering their failed War on Poverty, and the fact that every once-great American city which has been ruled for decades by the DNC lies in economic rubble.

Exactly. This is why they are PROFESSIONAL LIARS --- their agenda is so perverted, in the face of America, they MUST HIDE IT. A bunch of real sick, dangerous people.

The ad was on the American Spectator site (http://www.spectator.org). It seems to have been pulled now that the blogs have started in on it though.

Well, I was reaching for my checkbook when I realized that it really can be as bad as they say, there is no mention of Halliburton, McCarthy or Rove. And, while they cite the NYT, there is no mention of Rather and CBS. Hey, but keep me in mind for the next left-wing lunatic campaign to object to and oppose EVERYTHING that W might advocate.

That is not even close to being true. The fact is that many Dem controlled cities are actually the main economic engines of many states. It is OK to go after Dems, but throwing around nonsense like that doesn't make any sense. Your statement that these cities are in economic ruin is just not true.

The image with the X on the soldier and the check on the kissing homosexuals could just as well demonstrate the real agenda of the Democrat party. Why should they be so upset about the truth?
