Something is missing in this story. Why was PFC Jacobs selected as recipient of these letters?

It was probably a class project and some poor troop's name was selected. The Communist teacher, under a portrait of Che Guevarra probably had all these points on the blackboard; Be sure to mention American casualties. Be sure to mention the mosques. Be sure to accuse the soldier of killing Iraqi children. Don't call the Iraqis in your letter insurgents or terrorists, call them "Brave Freedom Fighters at war with American usurpers and imperialists." See if you can work the phrase "blood for oil" in your letter.

Also students, remember that your letters of praise for our good comrade, Fidel Castro are due next week.

When I was in Korea back in '88-'89 we'd get batches of pen pal letters and cards from school kids, usually around Christmas or a holiday. It was most likely just random that he got this particular batch of letters. Sometimes when you're 8,000 miles from home even a letter from a stranger is better than nothing at all. In this case it's not.

One of the girls in the class has a father who works with the soldier's dad. The father of the girl asked his co-worker if his daughter's class could write to his son. Some of the kids, including this little girl, wrote very nice letters, but the majority were full of rhetoric. The information can be found here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1348479/posts.

Some of us have been calling and emailing the school, the chancellor, and the superintendents. contact information is at the post linked above.
