Bill Maher: Christians have neurological disorder Says parents 'drill' religion into kids' heads using biblical 'fairy tales' Posted: February 18, 2005 1:00 a.m. Eastern

Bill Maher

Television personality Bill Maher, host of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," says Christians and others who are religious suffer from a neurological disorder that "stops people from thinking."

Appearing as a guest on MSNBC's "Scarborough County" this week, Maher told host Joe Scarborough:

"We are a nation that is unenlightened because of religion. I do believe that. I think that religion stops people from thinking. I think it justifies crazies. I think flying planes into a building was a faith-based initiative. I think religion is a neurological disorder. If you look at it logically, it's something that was drilled into your head when you were a small child. It certainly was drilled into mine at that age. And you really can't be responsible when you are a kid for what adults put into your head."

The former host of "Politically Incorrect" said the lack of enlightenment of so many Americans means the nation actually has more in common with its enemies than one might think.

Said Maher: "When you look at beliefs in such things as, do you go to heaven, is there a devil, we have more in common with Turkey and Iran and Syria than we do with European nations and Canada and nations that, yes, I would consider more enlightened than us."

Maher explained that he was not singling out evangelicals, but was targeting all "religious" people.

"I think the vote in Missouri [rejecting same-sex marriage] and a lot of other states is because people are religious," Maher said. "They don't have to be evangelical, but they're religious. They believe in religion, which as – I think it was Jesse Ventura who had that quote about religion is a crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers."

The television host told Scarborough he was convinced evangelicals' influence will wane.

Said Maher: "When people say to me, 'You hate America,' I don't hate America. I love America. I am just embarrassed that it has been taken over by people like evangelicals, by people who do not believe in science and rationality. It is the 21st century. And I will tell you, my friend. The future does not belong to the evangelicals. The future does not belong to religion."

Later in the interview, Maher returned to the childhood-religion theme, comparing fairy tales to Bible stories:

"When you were a kid and they were telling you whatever you believe in religion, do you think if they had switched the fairy tales that they read to you in bed with the Bible, you would know the difference?

"Do you think if it was the fairy tale about a man who lived inside of a whale and it was religion that Jack built a beanstalk today, you would know the difference? Why do you believe in one fairy tale and not the other? Just because adults told you it was true and they scared you into believing it, at pain of death, at pain of burning in hell."

Bill must be feeling neglected by the spotlight. Even though he is a pompous idiot, it seems as though he makes these outrageous statements to get attention. Mind you, he has moved from admiring the courage of the Sept. 11th terrorists to putting them on equal footing as religious people.

He will be standing there as an INDIVIDUAL responsible for himself.

Exactly right. He's trying to get a rise out of Christians and hopefully we'll ignore him. He doesn't bother me with his rantings, I just feel very sorry for him.

One day he'll be faced with reality and will have no excuse for his ignorance in calling God's Word a fairy tale.

"For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God." Romans 14:11.

Bill Maher," says Christians and others who are religious suffer from a neurological disorder that "stops people from thinking."

Another real liberal joke!!! Liberalism is itself a type of religion in which one worships there own thoughts and beliefs. Also assumes that a liberal is better educated, smarter, and better informed thereby justifying self worship. The truth is quite the opposite for while most religions have been banned from public schools the liberal religious indoctrination has not and has in fact flourished under the present conditions. Do not expect this to continue! In order to exist liberalism must exercise control of any thought and action that promotes freedom and individualism (values of a free society). In other words liberals think everyone should think as they have been indoctrinated (self promotion). Religions endure based on their benefit or detriment to society. While no one religion is perfect Christianity has certainly stood our society in good stead. It promotes freedom and individualism and at the same time offers 10 rules by which a society may survive. Such a religion cannot be easily discarded because its benefits are ethical. Liberalism only offers self. Enough, but you might say that liberals try to follow the path that gives the most pleasure and least pain without ethics being a issue and Christians would adhere to man is what he sees in others and what others see in him, therefore he has a responsibility to conduct himself in a manner that is beneficial rather than a hindrance to mankind.

Someday he will get the opportunity to explain his statements to the Lord personally. I hope I am there to witness it...

That would mean that he would outlive you, and by the looks of him, he ain't too long for this world.

Personally, I would rather live to pee on his grave.

This reminds of of a few scriptures. One says something to the effect of "Professing to be wise, they became fools."

And this:

"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

Maher is spiritually dead. As a result, he can't comprehend spiritual things. This does not stop him from commenting on them, however.

Please explain to me where wanting freedom and Liberty for yourself and others demonstrates lack of intelligence and enlightenment?

Maher always reminded me of a snotty spoiled brat. He is a below average talent who makes a living pretending to be clever. If you take away all his jokes a 13 year old could make up, he would have no material at all.

If Bill was only obnoxious, that would be enough, but he lies all the time. These are not mistakes, they are downright lies and he knows he is a liar, thus the problem with a God that condemns his lying.

Bill is also a prideful fornicator who loves to talk about fornication...Thus his problem with a God who condemns fornication.

"I do think Mel Gibson is anti-Semitic," Maher told radio host Don Imus. "So, by the way, is Tom DeLay. So, by the way, are all these Christian right people who pretend to be friends of Israel."

Bill Maher is once again, a proven liar.

He is not just an habitual liar, he is also very sloppy when it comes to even the most meaningless facts. This little troll of a man is nothing more than a tiny pop-culture puppet, controlled by his extreme selfishness.
