A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

Hearing And Doing

Read:
James 1:19-27

Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. -James 1:22

Bible In One Year: Numbers 4-6

cover I read about a man in New York City who died at the age of 63 without ever having had a job. He spent his entire adult life in college. He had acquired so many academic degrees that they looked like the alphabet behind his name.

Why did this man spend his entire life in college? When he was a child, a wealthy relative died who had named him as a beneficiary in his will. It stated that he was to be given enough money to support him every year as long as he stayed in school. And it was to be discontinued when he had completed his education.

The man met the terms of the will, but by staying in school indefinitely he turned a technicality into a steady income for life-something his benefactor never intended. Unfortunately, he spent thousands of hours listening to professors and reading books but never "doing." He acquired more and more knowledge but didn't put it into practice.

This reminds me of what James said: "Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only" (1:22). If we read the Bible or listen as it is taught but fail to put to work what we have learned, we are as bad as that man with his string of degrees. His education was of no practical benefit to anyone.

Hearing must be matched by doing. -Richard De Haan

We take delight to read God's Word
And say, "Oh, yes, it's true!"
But it's of little use to us
Unless we hear and do. -D. De Haan

Open your Bible prayerfully, read it carefully, obey it joyfully.

C'mon - tell us if it is a male or female, and toss it up to your Finest Family to have fun with name suggestions!
Offer a color paw-autographed picture or sumpin' for the prize - LOL

We deserve the mind stretcher and having fun..:))

Good afternoon, boy I feel like that lady, I spent the morning in the doctor's office, just to get my RX for my synthroid refilled for the next 5 months. They just wouldn't just refill it without my seeing the Physicians Assistant.

Mrs.d had friends at work submitting names for our new son.
Many terrific names, and we've been bouncing names back and forth and just settled on "Doc."
Among the reasons for choosing "Doc", we like it, and "Doc" was the the name of the character in my ship's logo - a Destroyer Tender - a floating repair shop for the ships of the fleet. The Piedmont got license from Disney to use his character from Snow White.

"Doc" Piedmont

Hmmm. . . that sounds like a good idea. Maybe a dose of Lyle Lovett, too.
