My reaction exactly. If this kind of surveillance were not allowed - Al Qaeda would construct network nodes by intentionally getting key people into prisons in the US.

He's saying that in war, treat the enemy like a typical criminal case during peacetime.

The enemy has written on CDs that they will use our cautious legal system, to have us confound ourselves, to our harm.

It is my opinion that extraordinary circumstances occur, during wartime. It has been so, and upheld as such in the past.

Ashcroft's powers were given by Congress to use.
