Jewish Cable Network Planned for Sept.
Attorney John Odoner is planning to launch a Jewish cable TV network, possibly in September, based on the premise that there's a potential audience of up to 20 million viewers in America.
"There are 6.7 million Jewish Americans but 13.3 million who are a quarter or half Jewish," Odoner tells Broadcasting & Cable magazine. He says his programming "will have a downtown, let-your-hair-down, crossover feel. Our mantra is: 'Not just news and not just Jews.'"
Odoner is considering some variations on initial concepts like "Jewishly Incorrect," which sounds like a Jewish version of the "Daily Show," and "Nice Jewish Boyz," sort of a "Man Show" with a Jewish twist.
He also plans on simulcasting John Batchelor's ABC Radio Network show, which offers the most thorough coverage of the Mideast anywhere on the radio dial, along with some programming direct from Israel.
"There are so many directions we want to go," he says, although he acknowledges that diluting the original idea is a mistake of many cable start-ups.
Odoner is working with the cable operators and says that a "realistic launch" this fall will put JTV in 10 million to 12 million homes.
"The cable landscape is littered with failed networks that did not establish and secure their base," he tells B & C. "Rest assured that JTV will not ignore its base."
Cute! I like that. I just might have to check this out.

Oy in the Family
M*A*S*H - Matzos And Spicy Herring
Ezekial's Wheel of Fortune
Oh sheesh, just what we don't need.
Expect the programming to be crude, crass, and full of Dem-worship.
