How about a study on the bias in the political coverage?? I must agree that in many cases, without local radio, we would not hear debates between local candidates, or an airing of the crappy measures that are being shoved down our throats by an ill-informed public.

While I agree most news is biased to the left, leftist McPain's solution, as always, involves government intervention.

...McCain argued that the dearth of local political coverage on local TV is a result of the increasing consolidation of the media industry...

So McManiac's answer is to Nationalize it?

Anothe perspective on this --- first, McCain comes up with some of the worst anti-Constitutional legislation to supress free speech in the media AND IT IS APPROVED BY WASHINGTON. Now, he wants MORE GOVERNMENT CONTROL over what the broadcast industry can or does say? IMHO, the broadcast industry (and the Internet) should live or die on their own merits. People will choose their own sources of information as a natural process. The government should stay out of this -- they have already infringed upon Constitutional rights of broadcasting. It should end.

McCain is short-sighted.

He doesn't see the alternative media.

The legislation was introduced by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on Tuesday after the release of a report by the Norman Lear Center at the University of Southern California...

This guy is certifiably NUTZ. The Norman Lear Center? Sheesh, why not base legislation on what's printed in Scappleface or the Onion you jack@SS.

Only TV broadcasters? Is that an auto-exemption for NPR?

How about having the FCC regulate frequency allocation, power output and antenna pattern and staying out of what people can, can't or must say over the air.

The media had no interest in helping us when McCain came after our First Amendment rights. As far as I'm concerned, he can do whatever he wants to those guys. I'll get my info from the Internet. When McCain inevitably comes after the Internet, then I'll war with him again.

What is he talking about? In my area, the two local TV stations provided a great deal of coverage of local elections and issues. McLame is seizing on a false premise or, at least, a broad and inaccurate generalization.

So, the guy is going to "fix" local news just like he "fixed" campaign finance reform? As a result of his meddling, more dirty money was introduced into campaigns then ever before.

The airways are the property of the people of the United States, however our Imperial Federal Government sets the guidelines to suit their own agendas as to what can be on those airways. What a deal.
