WASHINGTON (AP) - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, who lost decisively to President Bush in an election focused on national security, said Tuesday the country would be "far better off" with his proposals for Iraq and the military. "I think my security proposals for the country were smack on, dead on," Kerry said. "I think that had they started to do the things I proposed on Iraq when I proposed them, we would be far better off today. And they are in fact now trying to do some of the things that I proposed.
The Massachusetts senator, meeting with defense reporters, discussed legislation he plans to introduce to permanently increase the size of the military and boost benefits for military families. It's largely the same proposal that Kerry put forth during the campaign. Several similar proposals also are being floated in Congress.
Reflecting on the presidential campaign, Kerry said he had proposed "a far more effective way to make America safer." And, he said, he was "way ahead of the curve" on several areas - like the position of an intelligence chief, the creation of the commission to investigate the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and an increase in the military death gratuity - while "the president dragged his feet."
"Americans accepted that I could be the commander in chief," he said. "What they were unwilling to do was shift commanders in midstream."

"I think that had they started to do the things I proposed on Iraq when I proposed them..." LOL! Just imagine for a moment if, for some bizarre reason, the Bush administration and the Coalition Provisional Authority really had, in all sincerity, tried to do the things Kerry proposed when he proposed them. I mean, can you imagine? It would have been like a Benny Hill episode: troops packing up to go him en masse, days later the same troops unpacking and tens of thousands more being rushed to theater, two weeks later all those troops being returned home, throw in maybe a sudden invasion of South Korea or Iran (just to avoid charges of inconsistency from Kerry). On the issue of sovereignty there would have had to have been an "accelerated time table," but when the date came it would have to be abandoned as an "arbitrary" date, for which the Iraqis were not ready given the security situation, and solving that would have to wait on progress on peace for Palestine, but then it couldn't wait because it was the first priority, etc, etc. Elections would have to be held early, then later, then only under U.N. auspices, etc.

Kerrys gonna keep foolin around and get himself cornered in this form 180 thing..
When that happens, NOT SIGNING IT, will be far worse than signing it..
Not signing it, will make the imagination run wild as to why he won't sign it, and will be closer to the truth of whats in it, implies ANYWAY.... If he signed it he probably could survive in Treason'chuchettes politics...
What a maroon... this idiot is..

As stated before, they were "SECRET". And when any were stated, as Bush said in the debate.. "That sounds familiar." John Kerry is purely delusional.

Don't be a CINO (Conservative in Name Only)
Don't listen to CINO's in politics,
the Main Stream CINO media,
and even here on Free Republic.
EXPOSE the traitor for what he really is, The Enemy Within.
Don't listen to CINO's who want to "move on".
And tell you "get over it Kerry lost"
"Kerry is finished."
He's NOT finished!
And remember this.
All it will take is for Clinton to have more problems with her health
to guarantee that Kerry WILL run in '08.
Remember all who told you not to worry about klintoon, hitlery and reno
after the 2000 election?
Remember all who said Ashcroft would prosecute them.
Remember Chinagate, Pardongate, Waco, Vince Foster, the Jewish town in NY etc., etc., etc. ?
Well reno ran against Jeb Bush and hitlery wants to beat Hanoi Kerry in 08
Are YOU willing to listen to the CINO's again?

How do you propose to increase troop levels?
