SEATTLE Mary Kay Letourneau plans to marry the former sixth-grade pupil with whom she had two children, months after her release from prison for raping him, according to an online bridal registry.
Letourneau, 43, and Vili Fualaau, 22, set a wedding date of April 16, according to their registry at a department store. Letourneau served 7 1/2 years on a 1997 conviction for raping Fualaau, who has said in the past that he hoped to wed his former teacher.
Fualaau "It's been long overdue," Noel Soriano, a friend of the couple, told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in a story published today. "It's going to be fabulous, seeing them get hitched finally."
A lawyer for Fualaau and a friend of Letourneau did not immediately return calls today seeking further comment.
Letourneau was a 34-year-old married mother of four when she began a sexual relationship with her then-12-year-old elementary school student in 1996. She was pregnant with Fualaau's first child when she was arrested in 1997 and ordered to serve a six-month sentence for second-degree child rape.
One month after she was released, Letourneau was caught having sex with Fualaau in her car. She pleaded guilty in 1997 to two charges of child rape, and gave birth to the couple's second daughter while serving her 7 1/2 -year sentence. Fualaau's mother is raising their two daughters, aged 6 and 7.
Shortly after Letourneau was released from prison last August, the pair successfully petitioned a judge to lift a no-contact order that had barred them from seeing each other.
Soriano said Fualaau proposed last fall, but the couple has been trying to keep wedding details a secret. Details are yet to be completed, but plans call for their daughters to be flower girls, he said.
"They have gone through a lot," Soriano said. "That they lasted this long proves how strong their love is."
His children?
Yuck!
This lady is sick. Or just obsessed.
I don't know what he sees in her, but I think she still wants him to prove she's not a child molester. One day she will need to come to terms with the evil thing she did, either in this life or the next.
His children are with his mother. I think this is a cheap psychological trick to 'prove' she isn't a sexual predator...
Well, whatever. This is no longer the concern of either the public or the State of Washington. Hopefully things will work out well for them.
So, which one is the sicko here? Him or her?
Some choice.
I think his father had something like 12 (+/-) children with eight (plus or minus) women (hot if you can find one) Some major family disfuctions.
Wanna bet he learns to keep an eye on her around 12 year old boys?
(Oh, yuck. I shouldn't have clicked on this topic.)
You know, her father was John G. Schmitz, the ultraconservative who ran for Prez in 1972. He got 1.1 million votes. Just thought I'd throw that tidbit out there. =P
>>What the heck can he possibly see in her?<<
IMO nothing, he's still hung up on the idea that when he was 12 he knocked up a 34 year old.
I think she's getting to that age where no one has to worry anymore.
I agree that 12 is just too young...on the other hand, I dont believe a 15-16 year old boy would have ever cried pedophile if a female teacher he had a crush fulfilled his fantasies either when it happened or 10, 20, or 30 years later and when in his old age he did reflect upon it he wouldnt think (gee I was molested)....There has to be a difference in these cases between boys and girls...its just nature. Let the liberals pretend there is no difference between the sexes........
What the heck can he possibly see in her?
paging Dr. Freud, paging Dr. Freud...
I do agree, it's now a private matter between two questionably sane but legally adult people.
He was also caught in a sex scandal. On this marriage, they're both adults now, but I can picture every predatory teacher using this possibility of marriage on gullible 12 year olds, and most of the victims will be young girls.
