You are misreading the political dynamics of the situation. It is the Democrats who are between a rock and a hard place. Every time a judicial nomination comes to the Senate floor, the Democrats have to worry that Frist might push the "nuclear" button if they choose to filibuster. And yet if they avoid filibustering, their core special-interest groups will scream bloody murder and accuse them of being spineless wimps.

very good point

. However, in this case, I think the Democrats will force the issue.

They way the Dems didn't even put up a fight on the Class action bill showed that all they care about about the Judicial nominees. They are trying to lull the GOP into complacency and then the entire Left-wing establishment will come at Bush's no mnees with guns blazing, and Dems will mount a serius fillibuster, with GOP "moderates" (traitors) on board.

but he hopes such a change won't be necessary.

Me too. They shouldn't abandon the filibuster without at least making the obstructionists actually conduct one. This business of backing down over the threat of a filibuster make no sense at all.

This is great news. It would only be better if the Rats actually force the issue.

"That will have them quaking in their boots."

It isn't designed to make anyone quake. It is designed for the masses that have questions about the lefts designs on obstructionism and wanting to use the process to regain power.

We have the left on the run because people no longer trust the vehicle of the left which is the MSM. By forcing the issue with the MSM they either broadcast it or the Pajamadeen put it out there. Either way, the left gets screwed.

Frist has not enough spine to be the leader of anything, much less the Senate.

Thanks for posting that. FWIW, the article was posted on FR back in 2003.

"Ronald D. Rotunda"? Looks like a pseudonym if I ever saw one! ;O)

Sorry, votes do not equal balls! And the republicans do not have any! They always cave when the heat starts to grow.

I'm not sure that the Senators chosen by today's state legislatures would be much better, but at least they'd protect state's rights.

We need to FReep Frist and get this done THIS WEEK.

I disagree. That is the worst thing that could happen. It would shut down the Senate for the remainder of this year if not the next two years. Bush would get blamed for fact that there was no budget and the government was shut down like in 95. And none of Bush's agenda would be passed but then of course, all the wingnuts out there that care about nothing but abortion and gays would be happy. Better to wait until we have some Supreme Court nominees to make it worth while.

If it wasn't for the mean spirited Dems we wouldn't have to do it. So DO IT ALREADY and shove it down their throats.
