Sims Defends Election System (KING COUNTY SHENANIGANS)
Seattle Times ^ | February 10, 2005 | Keith Ervin

King County Executive Ron Sims has come out swinging at critics who have called the county's management of the contested gubernatorial election either incompetent or corrupt.

In his first news conference on problems with the Nov. 2 election, Sims yesterday said he will ask the County Council for money to create a "state-of-the-art" election facility and to improve worker training.

Sims defended Elections Director Dean Logan and said he was convinced the county "conducted the most accurate count humanly possible with the systems we have today. ...

"I am deeply disappointed that so many have sought to take political advantage of human error and turn it into baseless cries of fraud and corruption."

Yet even as Sims praised Logan as "the best," critics said they were concerned that the county couldn't figure out who had cast 1,853 ballots. Sims was interrupted at one point by detractors.

Sims and Logan shared the podium as they released Logan's 24-page report on the election. The report outlined proposals for changes but provided little new information about a series of errors.

Those errors included the mailing of duplicate ballots to some absentee voters; the mistaken rejection of some absentee ballots cast by voters whose signatures weren't found in a computer system; and the improper counting of some provisional ballots before the eligibility of the voters was verified.

None of that can be attributed to an outdated system. It can be passed off as poor training but that is just a cover for fraud. If Democrats are going to revamp an election system you can rest assured that it is not to make it more accurate. The only way they are ever elected is through lies and fraud, abetted by the media.

baseless claims, Mr. Sims?

Prove it!

Every election has its flaws,, What you have are so many flaws one can only arrive at the conclusion that there is gross incompetence at work in your neck of the woods.

Oh, that's right ,,, You don't want to talk about facts, Just divert, deny and delay any ultimate revelations of your piss poor works as long as possible.

Of course. Plain honesty is not enough.....Remember, all "state of the art" whatchamacallits are always subject to some sort of hacking. If you're not honest to begin with, just ask for more money to install "state of the art" crap, and continue to be dishonest. Simple but costly plan.

"I am deeply disappointed that so many have sought to take political advantage of human error..."

You mean like Gregoire and her cronies who continued to push for recounts until enough fraud had taken place that she finally had a lead (after losing the first 2 counts) and then declared it a completed election?!

The election results from Seattle have about the same level of reality... Of course a meteor or volcano WOULD be nice, but the UFOs??? {VANITY} I think I have hanging around my son too much...

Sportscaster Dave Sims (now on ESPN) is a friend of mine who got me my first break in media when I was a kid. He hosted shows on New York's MSG Network and WNBC radio (later WFAN).

So King Sims wants more money to fix what is, in his view, no big problem with the 2004 election? This is analogous to constant liberal Democrat appeals for more money to fix education.
I have a message for them: MONEY IS NOT THE ISSUE!

After the King County 2003 election debacle (which most folks, and the press seems to forget) King Sims asked for more money and got it, including a new computer system for tracking votes. He then promised that the crisis was over and there would be no more election problems. Obviously, money is not the issue.
Administrative competency IS THE ISSUE.

Neither King Sims nor Dean "only minor errors" Logan seem capable or willing to address the real problems in finding out why over 1,800 votes didn't have real, live, attributable citizens associated with ballots.

By the way, King Sims is up for election this year. Given Brightwater, CAO property takings, the tent city fiasco, rampant election fraud, errors, and loss of confidence, etc., etc. isn't it about high time that he, along with all of his appointees, be shown the door.

Key words "ask the County Council for money". Just can't do anything new with the money you're already allocated. Always have to ask for more.

Yep. I guess the money they already have is no good.
