The filthy separatists sense weakness.

Anyone have the formula for Spanish capitulation? I recall it is a multiple of C4 and deaths and eye-minutes of worldwide press coverage and BBC trouser-peeing (in litres), but the exact ratios escape me at the moment.

Looks like ETA. They're a minor irritant at most, sort of like our own 'ELF.'

I think they are also trying to ruin Spain's 2012 Olympics bid, to embarrass the government.

ETA is to the Basque country within Spain-France as the NAACP is to black America within the US. Desperate times call for desperate actions as their relevance is being eroded.

A little more info in this update

Madrid bomb blast hours before king visits site
(Filed: 09/02/2005)

Ten people were injured when a car bomb exploded outside a convention centre in Madrid.

The blast went off before police were able to clear the area after a warning purportedly from the Basque separatist group Eta was received by a newspaper.

The king and queen of Spain and Vicente Fox, the Mexican president, were scheduled to open an art exhibition at the convention centre several hours later.

None of the injuries are serious, emergency services said.

Basque police said the Basque newspaper Gara had received a warning about the blast from Eta.

Is Madrid one of the bid cities competing this time around?

I was under the impression that Paris had essentially wrapped this thing up.

I think Madrid still has a chance.

I knew that they had narrowed it down to three or four finalists, one of which was New York City.

The media buzz has been that Paris is a lock, though I suppose that could just be a rumor floated by certain members of the IOC, in order to deflect attention from their real choice.

Presidente Zapatero is hiding under the bed. Just follow the trail of yellow liquid seeping out from under it... that is one finds the yellow coward.

He humbly laid down at the feet of Bin Laden and Al Qaida as commanded, now the commands will not let up. ETA only blows up structures - and law enforcement people, for the most part. Sooner or later, the appeasers will see that they made a bad bargain.

As always, they thought they gave up their honor to get peace.
Instead, they gave up their honor, and they will get violence anyway.

I'm in total agreement. Things have gone very badly for Spain since they elected the coward Zapatero as their President. Now, unemployment is sky high, ETA is making a comeback and there is no peace for the Spaniards. Their tourism is hurting and the face of Spain in the world is tarnished. A country in upheaval, a country besieged by terrorism...and they thought that by capitulating to Al Qaeda they were going to live in peace..no!!! Now ETA feels they can get their way, why not? It worked for Al Qaeda. We'll see how long Spain keeps Zapatero as their hero...

For those who may not know, it is widely expected that ETA will basically achieve its goal of splitting off the Basque region by the end of the year. So Spain will no longer be the Spain that it has been since all the various Spanish kingdoms were unified under Ferdinand and Isabel 500 years ago. Basically, the modern state of Spain may well break up.

The Basque region will become a hard-left socialist state, Catalonia will probably become a French-identified socialist state, and Morocco already has the Spanish North African cities of Ceuta and Melilla, as well as the Canary Islands, colored in Moroccan colors on its maps. There's no end to weakness once it gets going.
