I understand that the barrel are interchangeable. That means that a 98 barrel will install on a M48. The length and stocks are another matter.

It's a '98 action, and it will take '98 barrels.

You might want to try one of these two forums for help specific to the M48.

Yeah, for only three hundred dollars AND it comes in a
NEW box!

Better to get a C&R license for $30 and buy one in very
much the same condition for $140, then get a Nagant M-38
for $49.95, then a Nagant 91/30 for only slightly more,
then a Finn M-39 (the highest evolution of the nagant
rifle for $200 in Like NEW condition.) Then a Czech CZ-52
pistol in 7.62x25 for $119.95 in like new condition,
all delivered to your door by the BBT.

Thanks for giving them the information. If I had money to burn I still wouldn't buy anything from Mitchell. Everything they offer is stupid expensive.
I'll repeat the information. Get a C&R plus get qualified for the Civilian Marksmanship Program. www.odcmp.org

Although the Mod 48 is a Mod 98, it is not a standard length action. Bolts are not interchangable between the standard length Mod 98 Mauser and the intermediate length Mod 48, stocks are not interchangable either. Stocks are available for the Mod 48 from Boyds among others.

It's a '98 action, and it will take '98 barrels.

It's a large ring Mauser 98 action, and the threads and diameter are those of the usual M98 large-ring pattern. The stocks are not an interchangable swap, however, and the sights are a bit different, though.

Mauser Barrel & Series Descriptions

Small Ring Mauser actions have a thread shank diameter of .980" and 12 threads per inch. These include Mauser Model 93, 94, 95, and 96 rifles and carbines. The front receiver outside ring is approximately 1-1/4" in diameter. Not included in this definition are small ring variations of the M98. We refer to these as "Series 2" in the diagram.

Large Ring Mauser actions have a thread shank diameter of 1.10" and 12 threads per inch. These include Mauser Model 98, Centurion, FN, Interarms Mark X, Parker Hale 1200, and Santa Barbara receivers with a front receiver outside ring approximately 1-3/8" in diameter. We refer to these as "Series 3" in the diagram.

Mauser Series II (93/94/95/96 Small Ring) - 1-1/4" front receiver ring and 7-5/8" center to center on the trigger guard screws. This series includes most Model 93, 94, 95, 96 rifles and carbines.

Mauser Series III (98 Large Ring) - 1-3/8" front receiver ring and 7-7/8" center to center on the trigger guard screws. This series includes most large ring, long action Mauser 98 rifles, as well as the Centurion, FN, Interarms Mark X, Parker Hale 1200 and Santa Barbara.

The standard German 7,92x57mm Mauser round, also used by the Yugoslavs as their issue rifle and MG round until the advent of Kalishnikov's AK in their service.
