A DRUG MOLE IN FOX'S CABINET?
By Michelle Malkin · February 06, 2005 05:15 PM
Mexican media are reporting on the arrest of Nahum Acosta, an aide to President Vicente Fox and key member of the National Action Party (PAN) in the border state of Sonora, a notorious drug hotspot favored by the Tijuana cartel:
Federal authorities have detained the head of President Vicente Fox's travel staff on suspicions he was feeding information to drug lords, Attorney General Rafael Macedo de la Concha said Saturday.
The arrest comes on the heels of increasing violence at the border and bristling recriminations from Mexico in response to our State Department's warnings to Americans about the dangers of traveling south of the border. Two Americans were found dead in Matamoros on Friday. And the Washington Post notes the most recent outbreaks of violence and chaos across the country: In separate incidents Saturday, three police officers and a teen were shot dead Saturday in the resort city of Acapulco in violence authorities said could be linked to local elections on Sunday, the Reuters news agency reported.
Looks like the Mexican government doth protest too much. Meanwhile, controversy continues to brew over the impending marriage of U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Antonio Garza to Mexican heiress Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala, worth an estimated $1.5 billion as vice chairwoman of the Modelo Group brewing company, which includes the famous Corona and Negra Modelo beers. "It's going to be a real power couple. She's very rich and he's very ambitious politically," said Rafael Fernandez de Castro, an expert in U.S.-Mexico relations and editor of the Spanish-language edition of Foreign Affairs magazine.
Oh, really? Update: More from Gringo Unleashed!, who keeps an eye on Spanish-language media. (Hat tip: Tigerhawk) |
i am shocked,SHOCKED, to think something like this would go on in Mexico.
I'm shocked that the perp was so sloppy that he got caught....he must have upset someone, and this is payback.
More on fox's drug mole!
What controversy? Malkin must be competing with Savage for the bottom feeder audience.
I think the "controversy" comes from Mexicans. Because Mexico is theoretically a "socialist" country, they don't like to admit that they have people worth 1.5 billion. Kind of takes off that socialist luster. But of course, socialism is simply another name for oligarchy (in socialism, the rich always rule, there are just fewer of them than there are in capitalism), so this should be a surprise to no one.
Malkin must be competing with Savage for the bottom feeder audience.
And Rod sits all alone as the Bottom Feeder on FR.
There's your controversy. Corrupt kooks!
Where's the controversy?
Ping-o. Thanks for adhering to the unofficial rules and posting those pictures, Stoat.
I hope everyone's enjoying America's unofficial holiday (even you, Bayourod).
What does that have to do with the marriage? Where's the controversy?
"con·tro·ver·sy (noun)[kontra vursee]
dispute about contentious subject; disagreement on a contentious topic, strongly felt or expressed by all those concerned"
Onlt Malkin finds some controversy in these two people marrying.
What are you jumping all over bayoufraud, I mean bayourod for? Has he changed tactics yet?
Naw.....Only one corrupt party snitching off another one, they're having elections today.
So far only 3 cops & 1 teenager shot/killed.......mexican pols blaming each other for that too.
"The arrest comes on the heels of increasing violence at the border and bristling recriminations from Mexico in response to our State Department's warnings to Americans about the dangers of traveling south of the border."
No, no change in tactics, some people are consistent. Look at an article with tons of facts and information and search for one line that he can take objection to and then ride it to death.
in the mud trying to get his masochism fix. Just trying to help him out - it's got to be tough today for a guy missing the soccer camaraderie of his homeland.
I thought all the upper echelons in Mexico, including the president, were traditionally involved in the drug trade. I suspect this fellow must have been disagreeable and made himself unpopular with his fellows, like Shelley in California.
You two need to get a room.
He's one of the ruling elite, now. I doubt he ever represented our interests, anyway. Sounds like he's been sucking up awhile.
