On a somewhat related note, I received the following e-mail from Google News recently that might be of interest to other bloggers wondering what the criteria are for inclusion as Google News sources:
Hi Michelle, Thank you for your note. We have reviewed www.michellemalkin.com but cannot include it in Google News at this time. We do not include news-related blogs or other news-related sites that are written and maintained by a single individual. Similarly, we do not include sites that do not have a formal editorial review process. We appreciate your taking the time to contact us and will log your site for consideration should our requirements change.
Regards, The Google Team
...Something's definitely screwy. In my letter, Google News said "we do not include sites that do not have a formal editorial review process." Is the presumption that group blogs have a formal editorial review process because they are run by more than one person, but that an individual blog is incapable of satisfactory self-editing? If an individual blog does investigative reporting or publishes original documents, as LGF has done and as this blog occasionally does, is the "formal editorial review process" requirement waived?
Why is Democratic Underground a Google News source, but not LGF? Why is a blog that recycles gossip and drinking games a Google News source, but not this blog?
Got something to say about all this? Send your comments to source:

Little Green Footballs (LGF) is also in this predicament and I can't figure it out..........some are in and some are out but their formats are all basically the same....
ack - this was meant to go to News/Activism. [sigh]
Now if Free Republic is excluded and DU in included, something is wrong.
Well I agree with the Freeper who said: "Screw Them".
Hang out on FR Michelle, we Freepers will treat you right and you'll get more hits than Google anyway!
Maybe. But they *are* enforcing their standards selectively.
And how can anyone exlcude sites like LGF and Powerline from GoogleNews. They are the ones, with help from FR, that exposed CBS.
Also note that the "blogs" are the only news outlets covering/pushing CNN's Eason Jordon scandal. Wash Times picked it up, but late. Rest of MSM is silent...
For Free Republic a search says: Source Free republic not found.
Their letter may be technically correct about their rules but the liberal bias at Google news is there.
No flies on that lady!
...so Google lists DU but not FR. Gee, no bias there ;)
FR mods are so on the ball. Thanks for moving me :)
It stinks and the Poobahs at Google know what they are doing.
The fortunate thing is that Free Republic shows up all the time in their regular search.
Two hits on your sweeties in one night! LOL!!!!
ha! Okay, I'll take some razzing for that one! :)
[TWEEET!] Illegal Procedure on Fen - 5 yard penalty - Repeat 2nd Down
Maybe if she wore a prom dress while editing it'd be a formal editing process.......
Thank you for bringing in proper protocol. However, I think a 5 yard penalty is rather light for the original poster not attaching a picture. I was thinking perhaps 10 yards and loss of down. :-)
You know they're full of it when they say "we do not categorize our search engine by hand". Surely there is some handiwork going on behind the scenes.
