FUNDRAISER FOR MARINE CHRIS LEBLEU WHO RECEIVED LIVER TRANSPLANT
2-4-05 | Doug from Upland

Posted on 02/04/2005 10:01:48 PM PST by doug from upland

FReepers, this has been a good week for a Marine, his family, and his friends.

Lance Cpl. Chris LeBleu from Lake Charles, Louisiana came back from Iraq and started feeling tired. It kept getting worse. He could not keep down food and then could not keep down water. Chris was transferred from the Marine Base at Twentynine Palms in S. California to Loma Linda University Medical Center in critical condition.

Chris's liver was failing and he needed a liver transplant to survive. He didn't have much time left. Imagine, surviving the fight in Iraq against the terrorist b*st*rds and coming home to this battle.

Last Sunday, a family lost a loved one in a car accident. Say a prayer for the 63-year-old woman who lost her life. The liver matched his blood type, and the miracle workers at Loma Linda performed the transplant. But he was still critical and still in a coma.

FReeper prayer warriors went into action. I posted the story, and the prayers came rolling in. And, of course, so did the sentiments thanking Chris for what he has been doing for our country. I printed and delivered about 35 or 40 pages from the thread to Loma Linda, and they got our prayers and wishes to Melany.

Great news. A friend of the family logged onto FR as Cajun Mike and told us that Chris was making progress. They got our prayers and prayers and good wishes from all across the nation.

Mike's first post on the thread was No. 218.

Mike then conveyed more good news. Chris came out of the coma, was talking, was sucking on some ice and wanting some food. He even asked for a walker because he wanted to get up ---- Post No. 336

On Superbowl Sunday, there is a benefit for Chris at The Club in San Bernardino. I hope some of you in S. California can go. They can accomodate 500, and I understand a bunch of Marines are going to be there. $10 entry fee gets hot dogs, chips, and free pool. Drink some beer and watch the big game for a good cause. What could be better? I'll give the info in a post below.

Also, a fund has been established to help the family. The expenses are mounting, and Melany will probably have to stay in apartment near the hospital for three or four months.

If anyone wants to send a check, no matter how small, it will be welcomed at:

Whitney National Bank
P.O. Box 4410
Lake Charles, LA 70606
Attn: Mr. Jim McGough

make checks (or whatever) out to: Chris LeBleu Benefit Fund. . . . . I spoke to Jim McGough at the bank on the phone today.

Way to go, FReepers. Prayer pulled him through. Let's keep praying that Chris keeps making steady progress and recovers completely.

A reporter from the San Bernardino Sun is going to do followup stories, and she is going to mention the prayers that came from the FReepers. Way to go, gang.

Doug,

This Marine is in an excellent hospital. But then you know that already.

Blessing and prayers for this young man and his family.

Take the Waterman South off ramp. when you exit you will be making a right so stay in the right hand lane.

After you turn right, you'll be on Redlands Blvd.
Continue on Redlands until you reach Hunts Lane go to your left then watch for Club Center Drive. The Railroad tracks are less then two blocks from Redlands blvd and Hunts lane.

There's a great greasy spoon on your right, right after turning onto Hunts Lane. Cheap food, lots of it and probably kill you in the long run.

Now back to Doug.

I don't know. Pursuant to a friend the family, they have a great deal of extra living expenses having to stay near the hospital. A Lance Corporal's pay doesn't go too far. Many of his buddies are trying to help, but they don't have big paydays either.

Im pretty sure Tricare will pick up his hospital bills, but you are right about the other expenses.

Dennis,

I don't have contact with the family, I don't live in So Cal. The person that is co-ordinating this is Doug from Upland. He is the contact guy. If you follow the posting links listed above they will take you to another source of contact, a Capt Mike who is directly relatated to the family.

I will be continuing to pray for Chris and to pray for you.
