There goes Mr. Jordan
MSNBC ^ | 2/4/05 | Glen Reynolds

Posted on 02/04/2005 1:19:37 PM PST by pissant

Earlier I mentioned CNN news executive Eason Jordan's comments at Davos. Jordan accused U.S. soldiers of targeting journalists, though he reportedly backed down when challenged by Congressman Barney Frank. Here's a good summary:

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, during a discussion on media and democracy, Mr. Jordan apparently told the audience that "he knew of 12 journalists who had not only been killed by U.S. troops in Iraq, but they had in fact been targeted," according to a report on the forum's Web site.. (snip)

After all, either Jordan's telling the truth -- in which case it's an explosive story of U.S. troop misconduct of the sort U.S. media usually pounce on -- or, alternatively, Jordan's lying -- in which case it's an explosive story of misconduct at a major news organization. I guess they're not as quick to pounce on those stories, which makes me think that Jordan's story isn't true.

Hugh Hewitt interviewed a blogger who was there, and apparently there is a videotape of the event. So where is it? It will either prove that Jordan is being misquoted, or that he's not. (CNN initially claimed that his remarks were taken "out of context," though it has since shifted its position and now says that Jordan expressed himself badly).

Was this an innocent misunderstanding based on clumsy phraseology? Or did a top executive at a major news operation tell a lie to foreign representatives in order to ingratiate himself to anti-Americans at the price of slandering American troops? The longer CNN and Jordan stonewall, the more people will believe the worst.

Surprising that Frankenwhine challenged Eason. Anyway, Eason's nothing short of a Dan Blather--all talk and no foundation but lies and distortion.

He has no idea of how he has now put his pellow reporters at risk.

The Insurgency will target reporters now to pin the blame on the U.S.

I hope he's happy.

I dont have much use for Barney Franks, but in this instance I would like to thank him for doing the right thing. If any Journalists are ever targeted I would like to nominate the butthead who filmed the marine who double tapped that wounded terrorist.

"....... he reportedly backed down when challenged by Congressman Barney Frank."

Barney Frank is almost always an enemy, but rarely a fool, that's why he is dangerous.
He was smart enough to oppose the 'Gay Marriage' nonsense last year when all his buddies cranked it up.

Jim Gerhaty on NRO is looking for volunteers to help compile a list of CNN advertisers to notify of Eason Jordan's remarks. TKS/NRO

It's not to his left that you've got to worry about. It's being in front of him that's a problem. Especially if you drop something.

Correct me if I'm wrong (never happens on FR) but wasn't this the same CNN exec about two years ago who admitted to shading stories in Saddam"s favor so that CNN wouldn't be thrown out of Iraq. He permitted the Iraqi censors to vet all their material before it went out. As I remember, this man is genuinely stupid and has zero insight.

I have even less use for Gergen and doubt the characterization of him being horrified at the statement.

Correct. Eason Jordan is the CNN news executive who authorized a.) covering up Saddam's atrocities and b.) encouraged CNN to pump out pro-Saddam propaganda -- all for the empty purpose of maintaining a news bureau in Baghdad.

Journalistic ethics appear to be alien to this creature.

Jordan can't help it. He can't even understand the difference between an assertion based upon evidence and the most vile stupidity.

He's another Leftist fanatic. He just spouts off what fellow fanatics find thrilling.

Seriously. Gergan could come out of hiding and state what he heard. He is a witness who refuses to talk.

We at FR have to push the story, screaming and kicking, down the MSM's throat. Otherwise its DOA.
