Debate on gays embroils school
San Jose Mercury ^ | 1/31/05 | David L. Beck

In the furor that has erupted over teaching about sexual orientation at Scotts Valley High School, one side frames its position in terms of broad-based tolerance. If that sounds like the liberal position, it's not.

The other side frames its argument in terms of the school's legal responsibilities. That is usually the conservative position, but not this time.

For more than two years, two parents have complained about gay-rights posters in the classrooms at the school. They also say a few teachers have made stridently pro-gay remarks in the classroom. They object to a gay ``agenda,'' rainbow bumper stickers in the classroom, pink triangles on the wall. Efforts to make gay and lesbian students comfortable make their children uncomfortable, they say.

But when they raise these issues, said one parent, Jerryne King, ``We're immediately labeled right-wing, conservative, Christian, intolerant and so forth.''

Another parent, Don D'Andrea, said school officials responded in a ``combative, arrogant, condescending'' manner to his efforts, and told him to file a formal complaint, which he did.

``The area where I'm frustrated is in this predominant voice saying you must be sensitive and protective of kids who either say they're gay or are in support of gays . . . you must tolerate and, beyond that, accept this lifestyle,'' King said. ``I have a problem -- in the classroom setting -- of singling out that particular special interest group above and beyond others.''

In order to give King and D'Andrea a fair hearing -- and to get three new school board members up to speed -- the five-member board has scheduled an open ``informational'' meeting next Monday, just on this issue.

Teachers and administrators have a very different view of events.

I live in this area. I will never have a child that attends a Santa Cruz County public school, having done so myself. No way in hell. Homeschool or private, I'll work 5 jobs and sleep an hour a day if that's what it took.

Do hope and Pray the parents with children in that school
district will WAKE UP and know that the legal requirments
of that School is NOT dictated by the homosexual. The School
District has NO legal requirement to indoctrinate children in the accptance of unnatural sexual behavior.
National Public School policy was the excuse given when the
local high school encouraged my son to "try it"(homosexual
sexual behavior) and "decide for himself"(and they would "help him" with his "family-if necessary") Problem is the local school FAILED not only mmy son,but his sisters, and the community as well. By embracing the corrupt policy
of GLESSEN ,and PFLAG and similar homosexual groups The
school FAILED. I am still angry five years later-and will remain ANGRY promotion of unnatural sexual behavior as
acceptable is NOT a function fo rthe public school. It is time for parents to get involved in the education of their
children.

Was your experience in a Northern California school also? This is mind boggling!! Is anything done to promote "normal" families? Walk about out of control PC!! My kids are grown, and we were fortunate enough to send them to private schools, but I have grandkids who'll be of school age soon!

Thanks for the ping CJ

Homosexual Agenda Ping.

Coming to your kids' school soon, if it isn't already there. It's like a pestilent disease that is spreading everywhere. The most important thing is to immediately protect your own childre, grandchildren, and any other kids you know.

The next step is to publicize what schools are doing, however you can.

Let me and DirtyHarryY2K know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

School officials counter that they are following California laws that have added actual or perceived sexual orientation to the prohibitions already on the books against discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, gender, ethnic group identification, ancestry, religion, color or disability.

How on earth does the law judge "perceived" sexual orientation?

Just another case of discrimination against normal law abiding, moral people. It's no coincidence that we are called the "right wing"

How did they fail him? If I were you, I would start a law suit, against the gay activist organization who were in the school, and the school board. There are attorneys who will take the case pro bono

Parents need to start doing just that.

The public school system failed my son by their perception that if he were troubled by the homosexual advances of people who claimed to be his freinds then he must be Gay.
So they advanced their original error by encouraging him to "try it"and "decide for himself." They compounded this error by "protecting him as a homosexual" but not as troubled youth. And as the schools cannot extend their policy beyond the school grounds soon as he was off the grounds he was easy target. The school did not protect my daughters -that school ID'd as normal heterosexuals, from the natural animus toward the unatural lifetyle the school
pushed on my son. Had they at least told my son that these
unwanted homosexual advances were not natural and that he
could/should say no to these liars the school would not have failed. My son is an adult -not living at home--a lawsuit now-even if I could find an attorney willing to act--would avail nothing. Were my children still in school-and for those with children in school (knowing what I now know)
I would definately pursuit it in court.

Were that mine, I would file a suit anyway. I would be out for blood!! LOL

My son believes the Crap taught by PFLAG and the homosexual
activists that he is hopelessly caught in that "orientation". He wrote a paper at tech school on the
subject claiming that no-one ever successfully changed their "orientation" He did not want me to read it --I suspect because he wanted to believe the LIE. But there are hopeful signs -he has taken to attend church on occasion.
And I've a few friends who came out of that lifestyle who
are standing with me in prayer -with God on our side the
father of lies hasn't got a chance. It's in God's hands now.Oh plant seed -but God gives the increase.
